It is a lot of fun to experiment with newly released perks and Yoichi's perks! I enjoyed using Boon: Illumination from Alan Wake for awhile.
in addition to the fact that he is a character invented by BHVR and that it does not come from the films "at least its adult version"
That why peoples "me included" sleep aswell on Ellen Ripley, because she doesn't look like Sigourney Weaver and don't have that much skins 2.
Over half the playerbase plays female survivors mainly. The ones that don't typically stick to earlier survivors like Dwight, Jake, David, and Ace because they've bonded with them over the years. Then there are survivors from popular IPs that people who mainly play female survivors will also dip their toes into like Leon, Steve, Ash, and Nicolas Cage.
Yoichi is a unique survivor because he's from an IP, but he's also an original BHVR creation. He's based on the kid Yoichi from the Ringu film.
The Ringu license holder allowed them to create this adult version of the kid Yoichi we see in Ringu. His design is based partially on what we see there too. He doesn't wear a yellow raincoat in the movie, but he does wear a raincoat when staring at his estranged father in one scene (also depicted in the Parental Guidance perk artwork). His sweater is a reference to his mother and the other main character from the film, Reiko.
You're only really going to appreciate his design if you watched and liked the original Ringu film from 1998, which most people in the west have not seen. Many people have only seen the 2000s remakes. I still think the first remake holds up well and is a beautiful movie, but that era of Americanized Asian horror remakes is not remembered fondly by the average millennial and zoomers were a bit too young to remember that early 2000s craze.
His design really does stand out from the other survivors as well, and he's very tall. So that can be a competitive disadvantage. However, he's one of the male survivors that can be harder to track due to his quiet breathing and his grunts of pain being well spaced out. Most people don't consider sound in this game though, mainly visuals.
Another thing to note is that he really only started getting cosmetics last year (aside from the xmas sweater). I think they're both brilliant and well thought out, but it's not going to really appeal to the type of player that thinks the Sable bikini top and mini skirt with boots is the height of fashion. They're also linked sets, which puts some people off entirely.
