That's not the point. It literally is just a waste of a perk slot considering that you'll probably only get one use of it early for gens before its just useless to run, and a second use of it MAYBE on exit gates(even though you can bluntly tell that it's an illusion).
The problem is there is no draw to making the killer actually come towards it or hit it to get rid of it. It doesn't show an aura, and it doesn't make any noise when working on the generator to fool the killer. If you're sitting inside the illusion, it doesn't matter what they see.. they straight up just hear the gen being worked on with the tinkering sounds and know you're on it.
Even playing as the killer myself, at the first second I MIGHT think it's a survivor if I even have the line of sight, but immediately I'll know it's fake and just look around a corner or check a locker or something to find the actual survivor and it's over.
At least if there was noise, I'd be more likely to walk by shack or something and hear the gen being worked on through the wall(even at low progress), and then I'd commit to checking only to find the illusion. THAT would be worth it more for survivors, and it would prompt me to hit the illusion and kick the generator more often than not.
Either noise, or making it where if you're within 10 meters of your illusion that any time your aura is revealed, it's aura is revealed instead would be nice. Again, works as a distraction as it's supposed to, doesn't replace other perks like distortion, and actually draws killers to commit to checking the generator. It's not that people using it a lot right now since it's new, it's the fact that it just doesn't do anything really useful that other perks like red herring or other gen progress based perks could do.
Even the BEST build for it right now is Red Herring, Mirrored Illusion, Blast Mine, and Champion of Light.. but you could still swap Mirrored Illusion with Flashbang or Repressed Alliance for **90%** more value(-10% for the fact they use a minuscule amount of time to punch the illusion away).
It's just not good.
Don't use it on early gens, then. The point is to waste a bunch of the killer's time, so you should spring it when you'd get the most value out of it. Yeah obviously if you put it on a gen early game and the killer realises you're running it you're not gonna get value.
And why do you care what the "best build" for mirrored is? Don't build to get value out of one perk, just run the perks that support your play style. Mirrored can waste more of the killer's time than blast mine, repressed and flash bang put together but you need to use it smarter than "wait for the killer to get close and then annoy them with your flash combo for 10 seconds". Which by the way, also probably won't work after the first time you pull it off.
"Oh hey, this person is blind! Time for a free hit!" that is the general premise of it's use. Tap a gen, apply, move on to a more important gen
Yeah tell that to all the Ghost Faces I've used it against
