You're essentially asking "when are we making Pyramid Head an M1 killer?"
Another counterplay is to circle around Pyramid Head close to it, since it has a limited turning speed that can make it difficult to track those survivors.
Pyramid Head wants to bait survivors into using a pallet or vaulting a window because it is an easy hit. So just don't do that. Don't run in a predictably straight line.
