Does ducking help dodge attacks?
I was serpentining around and ended up dodging 5 of the Deathslinger’s shots before he got annoyed and wandered off when playing last night. At one point I ducked and he missed to the side of me, but it got my thinking if ranged attacks and similar like the xeno tail or Nemesis tentacle take into account the height of the survivor. Can you duck attacks to dodge them?

I can’t imagine it works with m1 hits but I was wondering if I should keep this in mind when dodging around. I know I should serpentine but if I know I’m gonna take a long range hit in a hallway can I try to duck it?

I think it only works with Deathslinger and Huntress, but I'm not sure.

it can once in a million years, but not really. I have accidentally dodged an attack before because my finger twitched and made me crouch.

Huntress and death slinger, yes. Nemesis, yes, if there's something of equal of greater height than your crouched player hitbox. Alien is similar to Nemesis, but more of a smaller hit area. If it's still accurate, think of Aliens tail like a rock on a string. You can throw it over an obstacle and look downward to drop it, potentially hitting survs on the other side.

I think it just goes down on its own. You can't control the vertical axis once the attack is triggered, only horizontal.

It can help avoid special attacks. Ranged attacks it's most effective against, but in some rare cases you can even avoid Hillbilly's chainsaw. Experiment with it.

When you crouch, your hitbox is lower faster than your character model, and also displaced slightly, so if you get the right angle, you can fully avoid the following special attacks:
Deathslinger shot, Huntress hatchets, Trickster knives, Plague vomit, Hillbilly saw, Cenobite possessed chain (not the passive ones), Clown bottle direct hits, Nemesis tentacle, Singularity shots, Alient tailwhip, and soon to be Unknown's UVX projectile (midair, not explosion).

It used to be that the hitbox was at the end of the tail so you could time it so it goes up then down.

I feel that was the case as well but I have no proof personally.

Yes and no. Mostly against a competent killer you wont dodge much, but its still worth trying. I have dodged hatchets, aliens sting, shots from deathslinger. There are things that dont always work, and much like the game itself latency plays an issue. But always worth trying if you have to go over a pallet or window and have nothing else.

Death slinger, Huntress, Xeno tail (if you duck and turn correctly), nemesis if your behind a solid half wall, clown bottles xD, Blight (if you duck and your also on lower elevation like stairs) and those are just the ones i can think of at the current moment im sure there's plenty more and probably even more that are conditional like blights

Yes it works vs billy demo blight and ranged killers.

For the record I was against the hag today and ducked her puke a few times

Yes, especially when the killer goes for a lunge and aims for your head instead of your body. One more reason besides DH to chase survs close behind and to quick attack them when you can afford to.

That said I would absolutely not rely on it. I had that happen maybe 1-2 times recently. Chases around L or T walls and jungle gyms are best for it since the killer aims in blindly around the wall. Bushes on maps like Garden of Joy (correction : Pain) are also good. :steamhappy:
