yes to clarify not cheating but changing things about the game, not to just give advantage but to create a fun experience. different game modes, balance changes, etc. and it would have to be custom lobbies only.
You can't mod something in a multiplayer game that easily. It only works when everyone has the same mods. So matchmaking would be impossible, so only custom lobbies would work.
Example:
Have you ever played modded minecraft? Tried to play multiplayer? If the others don't have the exact same mods, they can't connect to you. Altered some values in mods but the others didn't? Could not connect anymore or game just crashes.
That is basically how modding works.
Edit:
Somehow missed the last sentence. Im tired...
No.
- Mods only change the game for you, not for others. If you install a mod that makes f.e. the Killer be colored in bright pink, the other Survivors still see the normal Killer if they dont have the same mods installed / enabled.
- Mods could very easily be used for cheating by f.e. making others easier to spot by coloring them brightly, and thats just one example among dozens.
- Creating mods that effect EVERYONE would require the devs to open the game (and possibly the servers) for everyone. Yeah no, that aint happening. Not to mention that even IF devs would want to do that, they would have to manually screen every mod to check whether or not it gives unfair advantages, double aint happening.
- And even if its costum lobbies only: That wouldnt be much help for the game in general since you would need to find very specific people for very specific mod-combinations. Pretty much no one besides groups that already play together would profit from that, which wouldnt justify the ammount of work that would be needed in order to implement that feature.
- And so on.
I dont mean to be rude, but you shouldnt call others "stupid" if the problem is based on your own lack of undestanding the topic. If anything, your suggestion seems to be more along the lines of something like a "community council" that helps the devs to balance the game.
there are games that have done this perfectly fine while maintaining the integrity of their normal game. you would just need segregation between the modes. again don't act like i don't know how mods work. second no a community council won't do anything because bhvr would never actually implement any changes a council would suggest or if they would it would not be timely.
I mean, you started of with claiming that modders would be able to balance the game / implement good things, without any mention of it being limited to custom modes. And you further called others stupid for mentioning cheating / the possiblity of giving one side the advantage. How would you f.e. ensure that in a custom game the Killer didnt implement a "All Survivors shine in bright pink and are visible at all times" mod? Or that Survivors dint implement a "Killeraura is always visible" mod? Even if its just custom games (which, if i remember correctly, get managed by BHVR servers, meaning they would need to run the code of the mods), implying there wouldnt be cheating / advantages for one side involved is just unrealistic.
