I just did this today, it's free. I held onto Windows 7 as long as I could (did the same with Windows XP), but know I will soon have to upgrade Windows on numberous systems at work so I decided to do it on my out of date gaming system to make sure it went smoothly and was free.
If it wasn't for work I would have still held onto Windows 7 but also new games would stop being compatible on them if I did. Part of gaming on PC, OS, RAM, GPU upgrades to keep up.
It just fixes the link.
I found a workaround to make the ptb launch on windows 7!
first of all a disclaimer:
i'm not sure whether this could trigger a ban or not, as we're making use of a 3rd party dll file, which maybe could trigger eac. the creator of said tool of which we extract said .dll file claims that it is white listed by eac, but we can't know for sure! so I guarantee for nothing!
what i did is:
go into your hdd/windows/system32 and there locate the file xinput1_3.dll.
i copied this file to my desktop and renamed it to our missing xinput1_4.dll.
copy the renamed file back into system32 so you now should have xinput1_1, xinput1_2, xinput1_3 and xinput1_4, which is a renamed copy of xinput1_3.
we repeat this process for hdd/windows/SysWOW64. i copied the xinput1_3 file again but this time from the SysWOW64 directory. the files are different in size so i wouldn't risk copying the same file from System32 again, they might be different because different bit version.
i think many people already did this step. it takes care of the missing xinput1_4.dll file error message, but it now gives us a new error message:
createdxgifactory2 cannot be located within dxgi.dll or something along those lines.
i looked this error up and found a working solution that was given when people had trouble launching postal4.
the solution was to download reshade[www.reshade.me]. it's a .exe file but it can be opened with winrar or winzip and possibly other packing tools.
if you open said .exe with winrar you find there 2 .dll files. ReShade32.dll and ReShade64.dll.
grab the 64 bit version and rename it to our new dll file that apparently makes trouble dxgi.dll and move it to Steam\steamapps\common\Dead by Daylight\DeadByDaylight\Binaries\Win64.
and that's it. this made dbd on the ptb launch for me. it leaves me some reshade log window on the top though. maybe someone has experience with reshade and give more info?
Win 7 dies?
Win7 VS DBD Update ?
Your best bet is to update to Windows 10 and scale it off on all demanding features as good as only possible, if your hardware isn't up for the task of running Win10 as intended.
Isnt it cheating use Reshade on a Multiplayer? Disable Visual Effects that normal Users cant. I wonder why the Devs and Steam dont VAC those People?
as i said. i'm not sure whether this triggers eac or not, so use at your own risk.
my nvidia control panel lets me do color correction, brightness, contrast and people even used it to exploit the stretched screen thingy i believe?
i hope they go the extra mile to ensure compatibility with windows 7.
for w10 i most likely lose performance to all the ♥♥♥♥ like naggy auto updates which you can't shut down and app ads which nobody gives a ♥♥♥♥ about.
i want none of this ♥♥♥♥ while I'm playing.
already got the ptb to launch yesteday. so why exactly swap to a much hated os instead of moving some dll files around?
and if the game does become unplayable it's no biggy either. I'm sure many people rather quit than run w10 just to play 1 game.
Lol you can easily deactivate auto updates! The Performance is much better I use Windows 10 since 5 Years, never installed Windows 8, Windows 7 and since 5 Years Windows 10 best decission ever.Let the Idiots quit the Game, shall the stay in the Stone Age, No DX12, No DLSS every Console Player laugh at this Morons!
if you dont use Windows 10 then dont talk lies, you can permanently deactivate all Windows Patches. The Defender updates makes nothing to your Performance, you can also deinstall Apps, theres only 2 you maybe not need, the Rest is same as Windows 7, Calculator, Mediaplayer... Edge and One Drive or Cortana also easily to remove!
