Due to how the game is dbd can feel incredible unfair a lot of the time

Time and effort not repaid, suggestions from the actual playerbase ignored to give credit to few "people of interests" who usually have poor gameplay but lots of audiance, lack of rewards on completing missions/tomes, hundreds of useless items that aren't fun to play but you are forced to get but cannot even sellsback for 1bp each, so you even struggle between 7 pages of useless offerings before finding the one you want.
Many just complain about unfair killer or unfair SWF or perks combo, but that's normal, its just a complain about some frustation over some games.

I think the reason is rather simple: A combination of "its a PVP game" and changing times. Somewhere along the lines people seem to have lost the ability to accept losing at something / others being better at something, so the moment a game comes along and even so much as insinuates that someone else is better than you it becomes a rage feast with claims about how this or that is unfair and players on both sides trying to look for reasons as to why it "that lose totally wasnt my own fault!".

But to be fair, its not just DBD. FPS games, MMORPGs with PVP, MOBAS, they all ad these "symptoms" for quiet a few years now. Even classic local couch co-op games had this problem, i think we all had that one friend who always claimed "omg my controller / character somehow didnt react, i demand do-over because it clearly wasnt my fault / it was unfair!".

There would still need to be a reason why rare games like Deep Rock Galactic are well known for having great communities though.

Maybe i missed something, but DRG doesnt have PVP, does it? Sure, it still kinda "measures" players against eachother, tho i would say thats pretty different from a game that directly pits players to fight eachother.

Because there's a lot to complain about. Glad to be of help.

Yep you're right, I brought it up because you mentioned couch co-op.

And even that said, other co-op games have far more toxic communities where people get flamed for being a burden on the team.

DRG seems to have found a good balance of gameplay that avoids that by design of the devs, and also good community management by the devs themselves, was my main point.

There's a trend of folk that don't want to try and figure out mechanics or ways around new additions, to just join in a campaign of complaining loudly and with frequency about "the new thing" because it's worked previously. No need to change how you play or learn new things about the game, if you have a chance at changing the game itself.

Because parts of the balance are crap & parts of the game work weird & when you have a bad game it's much easier to blame those than ask yourself what you could have done better

Developers made this game competitive and players boosted that idea, something that isn't true. The game can never be perfectly balanced and proof of that was the countless changes since 2016, a lot of times following players' ideas, to only get different complaints next.
With the amount of killers, survivors, maps, perks and possibilities, people could focus on one thing: having fun. But I guess they're used to living under constant butthurt.

Life is simple, don't expect shxt from those who don't owe you shxt. You paid for the game, you should know what to expect and not 1. turn the game into something it isn't. 2. complain instead of having fun.
Note that by having fun I don't mean win, which is most players' idea of having fun. You can have fun getting tunneled too.
I guess this is what Counter-Strike teaches you after years of frustration. That's what a competitive game looks like, and a problematic one too.
Let those who get paid to play sweat when competing and argue about what's wrong. If you paid for a game, try to have fun off it, not the opposite.
