I'm starting to think Mathieu Cote was right (Taking a Break wise nothing else lol)
I feel like alot of people in the discussion board need to take what Mathieu Cote telling players to take a small break to heart. (Even if as the game director he should be taking the players opinions into account and not just tell them to play CIV V lol).
I'm reading some of them and seeing alot of the same people getting mad and then they play the game for upwards of 20+ hours a fortnight and is it really worth it?
Like honestly this post is likely going to be drowned by the next "Survivors keep crying" or "Killers need to be nerfed" post but trust me.
I use to be extremely toxic and I can say from personal experience taking sizeable breaks between events, tomes or just general breaks to do other things you like really helps with not only your mental health but enjoyment of the game.
I'm not here to start an argument or anything this is just self reflection from going through alot of the posts here.
For fun, Talk about something you enjoy that helps you relax be it related to DBD or just a personal thing and maybe it'll help someone who sees this for me its Labbing in Fighting Games between matches or watching videos.
I hope everyone who reads this has a good day!

Edit: I'm just going to state this now so It doesn't become a reoccurring comment. I personally believe that yes everyone should take a break if you're not enjoying a game like Mathieu Cote said. However, him saying that to a burnt out player while being the game director is unprofessional I am just saying quote wise.

Yeah that's why I kinda made of it but its still a good point even if he shouldn't be saying it as the game Director lmao.

but without ignoring the problems in the game that need to be fixed to continue to improve the player experience (especially solo survivors imo) and not come out with crap like "we don't have a solution for this problem".

I took a long break from the game, and since I've been back, the problems I had 4 years ago are still there. Playing as a solo survivor is not a very fun experience which often lead to toxicity. Especially if you have a competitive spirit. telling players to take a break is condescending and unprofessional and that was a long time ago he said that.

Fair point and I feel like I need to make an edit and say the quote itself not the context because my disposition is the fact so many people are so vitriolic to the side they don't play that it starts to affect them outside of game.
I use to have a friend that exclusively played Killer and it eventually got to a point where the smallest infractions a survivor did (bodyblocking for a injured teammate for example) was enough to harass them in endgame and when confronted he stopped playing for a couple of months and had a new mindset.
Objectively, Mathieu Cote saying that is right sometimes you need to take a break from something if you're burnt out or mad but as you said yeah as the games Director he should be improving the average players experience then just saying "Nah bro take a break".

to address your point, i don't think it's on players to stop doing something they love doing just because they voice their issues w/ the game. i agree people shouldn't be toxic in general but their played hours has little to do with what they are feeling. the gameplay loop can't be found in any other game so taking a break like with other games is harder and the same problems could be fixed but aren't for some reason..

Yeah I understand that its mostly directed at like the really bad people due to me personally experiencing it. And taking a break can mean many things since I think the main issue at least with toxicity stems from Casual matches more then anything since playing Customs can be a whole lot of fun (Unless your friends are that one evil toxic SWF lol).

I've started taking brief breaks from some games just because, even if a game is perfect for you and everything you could possibly want, if you just binge it nonstop you're eventually going to get sick and tired of it.

The limited time battle pass stuff and holiday events back to back can be draining too, and are certainly a factor in this sort of burnout, at least for me.

It's like listening to my favorite music, sometimes I play a song I have bookmarked because I haven't heard it in a while, then play it again, then I'm like "I love this song, and I don't ever want to hate it because I overplayed it, let's listen to something else." Games can be the same way.

i mean i wish i could play w/ my friends but i would never invite them into this environment hahaha. that's why i wish bhvr would fix more of their bugs and core issues w/ the game, so I'd feel more confident asking friends to hop in

Very true lmao they're like "you play DBD alot should I get it and I'm like "Nah Run for the hills my soul has been taken save yourself"

I think my worst enemy in games is mindset and frustration. I have played 8k hours of dbd and I have no clue half the time what people even are upset about and solo queue for me is really fun and challenging, but that did take me some time to think like this. The very few times I'm not having fun I indeed just go play something else. I do have to say I also am not a competitive player. There is also a difference if you make your money playing this game and people are expecting you to have fun when you are having a crap day.

I also have that issue but its more personal things like if i'm having a stressful day and play the game more of my more toxic traits come out compared to if I have good days.
And yeah I don't get how the bigger content creators do it they're basically put on a pedestal of expectations where it feels like it could crumble at anytime especially with how protective people can be with their favourite content creators.

I feel the introduction of new, nonserious, fun oriented game modes could help a lot.
Having them in their own "Party mode" queue where the game mode changes, they can put event stuff in that queue too during events, etc...

You would be frustrated with the main game and be like okay whatever, lets see what is in the party queue this week- oh it's Prop Hunt, or 2 v 8, or Swapped Perspective, etc....

I hope they do not only add one game mode, because a dedicated queue where they add others would be great. They could remove the matchmaker (or divide it into larger group pools at least) in that queue and focus on adding elements that add a little randomness and focus on FUN games rather than FAIR games for a change. It would let people unwind.
It could be like swapping off some highly competitive online racer to play Mario Kart for a bit essentially.

I could probably rope friends into actually playing the game if they added a 2 v 8 mode, or more relaxed game modes with simpler objectives.

Right now the learning curve is too high, and friends I have tried to bring into the game are like "This is boring" because holding m1 on gens, or running from killers while not knowing how to actually run them, dying to a BILLION different perk/power/item/effect combinations you don't understand is overwhelming.

God, the more I think about it the more I realize a special chill mode queue would solve so many problems the game has.

This is one of the grindiest games there is, so no they DON'T want you to take breaks😂. They are constantly bombarding you with little knick-knacks to grind for.

Wait till they add the ability to level up with iri shards I can see them doing that lmao.
