Is Hatch a Win?
I've always looked at it like a win; like, the gens weren't done, but being the longest-lasting survivor on the team (without hiding) and getting the hatch has always felt like a win to me.
I ask because there seem to be a lot of people who get so hung up on not finishing gens, that they don't seem to notice that hatch = escape = victory

Idk...am I weird here, or do others agree?

DBD doesn't really have a clear win condition. Someone who got many saves and ran the killer for most of the match but still dies is as much of a winner to me as someone who simply escapes.

It's not a win, it is a 50/50. Devs have always stated 3K is a win for Killer, so if you get hatch, you may see it as a win for yourself, but the game was actually won by the Killer. Hatch is literal luck, there is no skill involved. Either you stumble upon it or the Killer does and if the Killer finds it before you, unless the doors are really spread apart, it will become a 4k game for the Killer.

Hatch = No MMR gain for survivor and no MMR loss for the killer. It's Neutral technically?

But 3k Is a "Win" to most killers.

Lets be honest though, If the killer wanted the 4k bad enough they could just slug for it and search for the other survivor and almost always locate them.

I'd say depends, there's the possibility of getting hatch AFTER everyone else escapes through the gates. I'd say if you could personally walk out the gates, hatch is a win. Mechanically, though, it's a neutral outcome.

3k is considered a win for most killers because it is. Their MMR will go up.

For survivors if they escape through hatch their MMR will not change, if they escape through doors it goes up, if they die it goes down. Simple as that.

For the record, I know what the MMR does. That's not what I'm talking about.
I'm asking about peoples' own subjective view of whether hatch is a win or not.

If the last person gets out using hatch and the rest of the team is dead, it is definitely a Killer win overall.

The hatch exists as a final escape option for an already lost game (think of it as an escape pod away from an exploding space ship).

It's a consolation prize to keep the last person from hiding indefinitely. It's a game of luck or offering. Plus as the team side your victory is a win as a team. To get to that point, all but you were eliminate. 1 lives 3 dies is a 25%. Not a win in my book.

If you want the truth, I'd be fine if it was ditched and we went straight to endgame collapse. I think it is a relic of old DBD days that feels kind of janky since EGC more or less accomplishes the original goal. The best argument for it, and I am willing to agree with this being a good reason to keep it, is that it puts the killer out of position of the gates originally sometimes to some extent.

If you go by the game's MMR criteria, then a hatch escape is neutral since it doesn't affect the MMR of the survivor who escaped or the killer to raise or lower either's MMR.

If you go by your own criteria then that depends on how YOU see it.

Personally, I count it merely as an escape for myself and a loss for the rest, so not much of a win, but it beats a complete loss.

The only time Hatch FEELS like a win to me is If I was already being chased before It opens, outplay the killer at multiple tiles, and then manage to escape.

Me stumbling across it uncontested? Mehhhh
Wandering Flare Dec 10, 2023 @ 11:55pm
To me, the hatch is a loss with some extra BP. The killer already won by getting 3/4 survivors, whether the last survivor escapes or not is redundant.

Hatch Win to me is not a good win. I think it still counts as a lucky win/escape for the survivor, but its definitely not a loss for the killer.

No
Betelgeuse Dec 11, 2023 @ 3:22am
No.

If a survivor looped me for minutes and then dies because I get to hatch first, they still played admirably and did not loose in my book. The other way round I did not win getting the hatch as surv because obviously my team and I failed our main objective.

It's just escape points for survs and +250 points and the 4k for the killer. Not more, not less.
