It's definitely a little overwhelming on newbies, but a lot of your opponents early on will be just as overwhelmed as you, and it doesn't take all that long to start getting into the rhythm.
If you don't want to do any of that because it sounds like too much work for a game, you might consider looking elsewhere. Nothing wrong with either choice, gl out there
Then you have the matchmaking sometime you will have good matchmaking with close game but most of the time its a stomp fiesta that make you regret starting the game.
And that's not even taking into account the perks and characters locked behind DLC.
winning wise: not at all
perk wise: far, far, far from it, this is easily one of the most painful games to grind max perks on
Theres not much technical knowledge that if you don't know you'll be screwed.
But - it is NOT beginner friendly..! I can list some quick reasons as to why I'd feel this way after ~750 hrs playing on 'n off over the years.
() While there have been measures taken to reduce the grind this game has... it still is a serious issue I feel for new players. If you are new, then you will be missing out on hundreds of perks, as well as dozens of killers and survivors.
() Speaking of hundreds of perks and dozens of killers!... There is a *ton* of stuff you will need to try and learn throughout your gaming experience. So the learning curve is surprisingly steep! From running each different killer to managing perks, addons, items, and map knowledge (to list a few things). This game is as complex at times as it can be unique; but it can also give challenging and rewarding gameplay that you can't get anywhere else!
() The game (at least *I* feel) has been getting better over the years with balance but there are still a plethora of areas that need attention; and many of those areas simply have no easy answer. Once you learn how to play effectively, I think that the balance levels out more than most angry tableflipping children will admit... But, if you're new to the game then handling the more polarizing/nutty tools at either sides' disposal can feel sometimes insurmountable. You'll have to accept a lot of defeats then truly learn from them if you wanna' enjoy this game. So the learning process can be long, but also painful if you are easily frustrated.
as a whole I think the game is unique and plenty of fun if you can get the hang of it. But yeah - trying to get new people into it is tough when they have a TON of content locked off by a grindy mess, confusing balance, and unique gameplay that can be difficult to grasp initially. If you have any anger issues or get flustered, I've noticed people get oddly emotional on this game too; so I'd recommend passing it if strings of rough games makes your blood boil. But I'm digressing lolol I'm sorry!
As a killer? If you're literally not in the top 20 you're going to get trolled for the majority of the game. Stare at a white screen as people chain flashlight you as one person spams toolboxes on a gen and finishes the game before you can even finish breaking a quarter of the pallets on the map. Every game will be a miserable hell unless you buy the new killer on release so nobody knows how to counter you for a good 3 days.
There is no "casual" queue. It's just one queue for everybody. So you'll get people memeing, people being tryhards, people being useless. Everyone.
Just don't care about winning or losing, this is a party game anyway. Only "competitive" solely because it's a PvP game that's it. There is nothing deep about this game and gameplay.
That's beyond hyperbolic for killer.
Personally, I started playing a bit over a year ago, and I enjoyed it when I was new.
Some people, I think, get into the game from watching streamers or something...they come into the game with an unrealistic impression of what the game is, and want instantly run all the meta perks, get all the clutch saves, 50 match win-streaks, and that kind of thing. If you come into it with that mentality, you are in for frustration.
I'm actually very glad I didn't start watching DBD streamers until I'd already put some significant time into the game.
