Chucky's Phantom Footsteps

At first I thought it was meant to throw players off, but it doesn't seem to do that reliably. Couldn't they have thought of something more practical? Or am I completely missing the point of the footsteps?

first note that i am clueless about it
but my first impression was that it is in favour of the survivors since he is too small to see around any loop you see that instead

I'm referring to the fake footsteps that appear all around the map, when he goes into his sneak mode.

Not the actual footsteps that chucky actually makes. I understand why those footsteps exist.

The fake footsteps are so obviously fake. It's hard to imagine it being effective as a diversion. I just don't know why it's there.

i think it is to get a hint, where survivors are.
Something like the addon for the doctor with his fake clones

its one of his addon.
It spawns the same foodsteps, survivors see behind him, randomly around survivors
