Next Killer is going to be "Generic Blond Dude From Fortnite", and his special power will be doing the Floss dance until the Survivor dies of cringe.
meh even watching some of the older films while most of the horror/scary movies the people seemed dumb in Child's play they took it to another level when people let a tiny doll murder them. If you watched it today you would of thought it was a comedy.
Mnhhh more iconic in the modern day maybe? Overall no, of course not, Chucky is retro horror slasher icon.
Springtrap is a good example of a more modern one though. I mean it's estimated to have generated at least half of what the Saw franchise generated in revenue, if not more than half. So it's up there with the current modern horror trends.
It's a child murdering psychopath whose decomposing body and soul is inside a crumbling rusted mechanical suit; bringing it back out of sheer desire for murder and revenge. That's about as metal as it gets tbh and fits DBD to a T.
The folks saying otherwise are looking only at some of the fanbase or thinking about markaplier streams, and don't actually know anything about the media itself.
They would be no more out of place than clown in a puddles costume, the legion Robbie Rabbit skin, etc...
All the iconic horror movie killers we have now are from movies that are iconic for a reason, Springtrap is famous for being a main villain in a le funny childrens' "horror" game that got dragged out for years. From the outside looking in, the killer would be a genuine meme.
