I don't get the competitive side of this game

Just got a match playing as survivor against an Oni with a guild tag in his name. He 4k'd us and said that he was playing in a tournament.

Seriously, it sounds so stupid to me. This is literally Mario Party halloween edition and people play this like some sort of CS:GO or Valorant lol

That seems kinda weird that he is playing in a tournament against players who aren't even in said tournament.

People can play however they want but that doesn't mean that anyone else has to like it. I also think that the hardcore sweaty ultra efficiency-minded "must win" competition crowds are lame, especially in a game that has way too many random and chance elements like this one. The game (like most games) was obviously meant for people to have fun, not win tournaments.

...Though now BHVR themselves are now pushing tournament play which I find pretty disappointing.

one more reason to have a competitive mode in the game, and likewise in other pvp games, allow a maximum of duos in the queue with the same mmr range and thus bring the game closer to its core and allow for better balancing and separating the casual players

That's how a lot of people play, unfortunately. Which I've never understood how you can get competitive (or gloat) on a game that is literally unbalanced by design (4v1). They'll NEVER get the balance down well enough that it becomes an actual eSport. Idk why they bother trying, they should stop trying to focus on balance and start focusing on making the game FUN for both parties.

Meanwhile my killer games have felt 100% more stress free now that Dead Hard is a non-factor, and my solo queue survivor games have been nightmarish between all the tunneling killers and brain dead teammates I've been grouped up with, lol. Both sides still have their problems, and I think it's a bit lacking in self awareness to complain about one side's whining not being justified but the other's is.

How can you have a tournament when the players you are playing against are not even involved, if its them tallying up performances to decide the winner the results will be totally random and not skill based depending on how ♥♥♥♥ your opponents from the matchmaking are.

It may be a hot take, but I think all pvp games are competitive in nature, and no pvp game is a party game. The only difference between for example R6S and DBD is the level of competitiveness.

But of course, you can still subjectively treat DBD as a casual party game, if you don't really care about win at all, rather you just enjoy the gameplay and spending time with friends.

When a game is designed as players vs players to do their best to achieve a victory for one side, it is already competitive in nature. Hence, DBD is a competitive game.

If people want to play a party-game / chill version of DBD, load up custom match and play w/ friends that way. Otherwise the other people are likely more interested in winning than just messing around.

LOL are you serious? thats not on my account, its a game design problem. I should not be forced to play custom games just because some precious cookies wanna tryhard an asymmetrical game just for the sake of ego.

This is NOT a competitive game. I'm very sorry but I can only giggle when people say 'tournament' and 'dbd' in the same sentence. It's totally out of place.

If it's not competitive, then why is queuing for a real game any different from a custom game? Is it that you want to play against a real person and win? The only one sounding like a precious cookie here is you, you got smoked by some guy who got good, what's the big deal? Sounds like another match in dbd, but you found something to latch onto to whine about of just going "Well that was hard, oh well." You're playing an asym game, in the harder role even, this is literally what you signed up for.
