Does Appraisal work with Pharmacy?

I was wondering if a chest is already opened,and I use appraisal to rummage through the chest would pharmacy still work,and give me a emergency med kit? I was trying to find a better healing perk combo then botony + self heal. I was trying inner healing, but for some reason every time I run this perk I can never find a totem, and when I don't run this perk I run into totems everywhere. I also noticed I spend more time looking for said totem so in my opinion its not very good. What are your thoughts on appraisal + pharmacy combo?

So if anyone was curious this combo doesn't work, I tested it. If a dev reads this, why doesn't this work? I still think self care + botony is the best combo for healing. By the time I find a totem to heal myself I could have easily self cared myself faster. wish they make a new healing perk thats better in general.

Pharmacy only guarantees the first item to be a medkit and you have to be injured for it to activate. You have to take the first object out to use Appraisal, so them not working together should've been extremely obvious lol. If you're really having so much trouble finding totems, bring Detective's Hunch (with or without green map) or an iri map (iri maps track totems).

It doesn't say anything about it having to be first item. The only reason it doesn't work is that rummaging is a different action than unlocking, hence if a perk requires you to unlock a chest, it won't activate when you rummage through it.

If you're unlocking it, by definition it contains the very first item. It's implied. Not everything has to be stated explicitly in the perk's description to be true.

Rummaging is not searching a chest. That's why it doesn't work.
