BHVR has openly said there will never be a DBD2 - they intend to simply reworking things over and over and over.

It's more logical. They prevent splitting the player base between DBD (old killers/maps) DBD2 (new killers/maps). Plus how would they make DBD different enough to justify a completely new game. Overall it is the better strategy.
