Classic Horror and Public Domain Characters

There are alot of classic horror monsters in the Public Domain. I dont know the ins and outs of that sort of thing but if these characters are in the public domain it should be easy to add them to the game.

I would love Nosferatu and Frankensteins monster as a killer. Draculas castle or Doctor Frankensteins lab would make amazing map settings.

If they're public domain (which Mickey Mouse absolutely is not, in fact Disney probably owns all of us by this point) anyone can use them in any way. No one has exclusive rights to them. My understanding is that Nosferatu is only in the public domain in America though, so BHVR (being a Canadian country) couldn't freely use him. I would definitely love him and the Monster though.

I would think so, yeah. Frankenstein is also public domain. The thing is that BHVR would have to avoid creating a character that looks too similar to any visual design that's been copyrighted. Anyone can use the stories themselves but certain specific artistic details are trickier.

frankenstein would be nemesis with electricity or just a basic m1 killer, he has no power, he possesses superhuman strength, incredible degree of stamina and constitution and a high level of resistance to pain. per short: jason voorhees without machete and bolts in his neck

Hmm, now that you mention it I guess the Creature never had any special offensive abilities other than brute strength. A vampire would likely work better (and I honestly don't know why they haven't added one yet).

Funfact: Mickey Mouse will be a public domain around/at the start of 2024. Correct me if I'm wrong, but that's only the original black/white MM. 90 or 95 years (I'm not sure) after the release of the "original"-version it will be a public domain. Dbd can, if they want, use the name of the character ("Steamboat Willie" back then and not Mickey Mouse) and a Mouse (in this case) as the design. Only the Disney-design is still copyrighted = everyone can use the original Mickey Mouse characer as long as they don't use the Disney-design. They just need their own version of this character and that's it. That's why we got a Winnie the pooh and a Grinch "horror"film in the last few months and a Bambi/Peter Pan-Horrorfilm is planned/in the works ^^

a vampire would be a great killer in dbd, his lore also would be great (if u know, vampires can survive n years).
i imagine being like this: he got called by the entity to join the realm and accepted in exchange to kill the survivors like pyramind or myers do (drink their blood)
probably his power would be like demogorgon, flying across the realm and being invisible
idk, but the concept of a vampire killer would be great
