I haven't played DBD for a year, decided to go play for the killer, sat for an hour, doesn't find the game, decided to turn on the cross-platform, the game was found in a minute.

I just don't want to play against people with epic games and (maybe what has changed while I haven't played?)

They probaly set something for the ones that turn off crossplay to lost priority. I turn off just to test once and I coudn't find a single game, turn on, boom, found a match in an instant, even playing with only Steam players three times in a row.

Because everyone plays with crossplay on? Only a very select amount of players play with it off.

When you switch off crossplay you limit the pool of players that you can be matched with - so you will only be matched with other players on your platform, who also have crossplay switched off. That's why there's a longer wait for those matches.

Imo, not really. The amount of Steam players compared to other platforms are pretty small and on top of that, it matches you with people who also have it off. The queue times aren't worth it to only play with Steam players. You'll also be matched with the same people over and over again in my experience in playing with crossplay off.
I had a group of four friends in Survivor and 1 trying to snipe as killer, all with cross play off and we never connected, even after waiting for almost 30 minutes.

but according to steam, there are 35k players online right now, does that take into account other platforms as well? otherwise, it's impossible not to find a game within an hour

Yes, it is written 35k people are playing, but some people with epic games come across.
35k is only for steam. Steam only tracks those using steam to play. Most of those 35k are crossplay enabled.

From the messages that were written here, I realized that everyone just switched to a cross-platform, but this is some kind of nonsense for me
Why? Its the default option that everyone has enabled and It offers the fastest matchmaking times.

It's having to find those that do not have crossplay enabled which is a very small pool of players, and then when you take into account region also - of course it will be a much longer wait.

It's just that some cheaters play through epic games (as I know), so I want to play with people from the steam version of the game.

Theres plenty of cheaters on steam aswell. Years ago i tried it myself, works and undetectable. Doesnt matter the platform
