for talking with others like in F13, i guess its just BHVR's design choice
for the generators listen for the sound of the skillcheck popping up, you'll hear a "ding/dwong" kind of sound then the skill check pops up. hitting the marker in the filled in white area is a great skillcheck and provides bonus progress and hitting the unfilled area just makes it so you dont blow up the generator (leads to a loss of progress and a noise notification that the killer can see)
also welcome to steam, I cant put down everything I want to in terms of what you should know as a beginner cause it'll be a long wall of text, but I recommend looking for some new player guides on YouTube, all the guides on Steam are memes with no real help to new players (ATLEAST FOR DBD)
1. Why does Generators blow up in your face when working on them?
A: Whenever you work on a generator, a bing noise will sometimes emit before a skill check circle appears on the screen, it functions as a mini game while repairing that you must complete by pressing the button tied to the action when the line is within the bar on the skill check circle while working on the Generator without letting go of repairing it, if a skill check appears on the screen and you either let go of the generator or fail to press the button tied to the skill check action itself, the generator will blow up.
Other things to keep in mind with Generators, killers can grab you while you're working on Generators if they manage to press the attack button directly at any Survivor who are working on the Generator.

2. What's the promo in the beginning?
A: I'm going to assume you're refering to the intro video you see whenever you boot up the game, the intro cutscene when starting up the game is the trailer for the latest dlc content for the game which is refered to as chapters, all chapters are released every 3 month and their cinematic trailers always replaces the default intro cutscene whenever a new chapter releases until the mid-chapter is released, which always releases as a Quality of Life type patch in the middle period between the latest chapter and the next chapter.

3. Why can't you talk to other people like in Friday the 13th?
A: While both games are asymmetrical with 4 Survivors and 1 Killer, their balance and gameplay loops are vastly different from one another and voice comm may have a larger effect on the balance than it would have in Friday the 13th.

As for any other tips, there is definitely alot that can be said and you can probably find most of it online for begineer guides, but here are some informative ones.
1. There are a total of 50 levels in the bloodweb, which is where you spend your bloodpoints to unlock items and addons for your characters. Everytime you go past level 50 for a character and pay a 20K bloodpoint fee, you prestige the character and from 1 to 9, you get a per level, 1-3 unlocks a character's personal perks for every other character, 4-6 unlocks a bloody variant of a character's default cosmetic and 7-9 each unlocks one charm with a character's personal perk, prestiging beyond 9 doesn't unlock anything and max prestige level is set to 100.
2. Custom mode can be used if you wish to play as any killer against bots on any map you chooses from the settings menu, as well as what perks the bots will use or items they carry. It's good to use if you want to just relax with a casual game, practice a killer to get better as them or test something out like a new perk build on a killer or if you wish to see a Killer's Ebony Mori, you will not earn any progression from playing there however.
3. The Archive option in the menu is where you find the tomes, which are periodically set of player challenges for you to complete during matches, you can complete them at your own timeframe and will forever be there. If you select compendium in the archive menu, then you can access all previous tome challenges.
-Every tome also comes with lore entries for whatever character that the tome is focusing on, those entries can be accessed on the left side tabs.
-Every tome also comes with a time-limited battle pass, most of the cosmetics from the battle passes tends to end up in the cosmetic store after an certain amount of time has passed, however it is not a guarantee that all cosmetics will end up there and all charms featured in the pass will be lost.
4. There are 3 types of currencies in this game, which consist of Bloodpoints, Shards and Auric Cells.
-Bloodpoints are what you use to unlock things like items, addons and offerings with in the Blood Web, they are earned from playing in online matches.
-Shards are unlocked through leveling your player level up which happens automatically when you play enough online matches and your player level ring becomes full, you can use these to grind up to unlocking a cosmetic or unlocking another character's personal perk that you haven't prestiged yet, if you already have a character's perk unlocked to tier 3, you can use your shards if you have 2000 to exchange them for more Bloodpoints.
-Auric Cells are bought for real life cash in the cosmetic store, useful for buying cosmetics or unlocking the rift pass that comes with every mid chapter patch's tome.
5. Survivors don't have any gameplay features that are exclusive to them, they all play the same and their perks can be used on everyone else once you unlock them.
-Killers on the other hand each have their own power and gameplay that are unique to them, some are easy to pick up and use straight away while others takes more practice to master, it is up to you to find out what killer works and fits the best for you personally.
1. Use the tutorial (Survive with Bots and Kill the Bots) and Custom matches with bots (to practice killer) as much as you need to. There is a lot to learn when playing this game and it will take lots of practice to get good. I will say though, while the tutorial covers the basics of gameplay, it does not allow you to practice with perks, which is half of the game. In custom matches you will be able to use perks, but at this point in time you can only play killer.
2. Take it slow and just treat it as a game. DBD can be super frustrating. The people playing this game can be super frustrating. Play as you like and just try to have fun. Try to be kind and find other players who are also kind. They are the ones who make the game worth it.
