Is there a way to appear offline?
If not... why?

I can't understand this. If you don't want someone to see you online, you probably don't consider them a good friend so why keep them added? Either remove them or confront your social anxiety.

It doesn't change your status in DBD.

You won't have to deal with a social anxiety if you don't have friends. :lunar2019piginablanket:

It's called "I don't want them to see EVERYTIME I play DBD". I just want basic privacy.

Also, the reason I'm asking this is because I have my little brother added. He's desperate to play with me - but I can't always play with him. It makes me sad to tell him that.

Calm down.

I think this could be a learning moment for both of you. Set boundaries with him and explain that you can't always play with him. Just think wouldn't it hurt your feelings way more if you found out someone was hiding from you?

First off, "I think this could be a learning moment for both of you" is pretty condescending.
Second off, don't you think I know my own brother better than you? I think I know what hurts him more.
The reason I want to appear offline is so he doesn't get his hopes up, only for them to get crushed. I'm not saying that I'm going to abuse the "Appear offline" so I don't have to play with him. I am just going to be the one who initiates it.
It's not like he doesn't understand that I can't always play with him - I've explained that to him before. He still gets sad, whether he expresses it to me, or on his own.

Let him be sad and learn to manage his emotions. No is a full sentence and you're not in charge of his emotions, as long as you're not being purposely hurtful. This *is* a good learning opportunity and you're responding really defensively. That other commenter didn't say anything mean and I actually thought their response was really thoughtful.

Dude: Can I go invisible in game?
Community: You have bad friends, delete them. Set boundaries. Manage emotions. Share feelings.

Gosh, is it a game forum or a psychological training? I just imagine it:

Me: Can't escape from Killer, any advices?
Community: Why are you running from him, is it something from your childhood? Are you trying to run from your problems, when you run from Killer? You just need to discuss it with Killer and set some boundaries.

If you set your game details to private on steam, DbD won't show you online ingame.
