This, Nick cage coming the 25th, everything will most likely be on sale.
One other thing would be to only initially buy Licensed DLC, because you can only get them with Real money. Things like Halloween/Saw/Nightmare on elm/resident evil ect.
Legion is good for newer players, and has the perk 'Discordance', which is very good for knowing which generator to prioritize. Feng Min's perk 'Alert' is very good for knowing where the killer is fairly consistently, except it doesn't always work on stealth killers.
You shouldn't need too many DLC to start with. Some of the perks you get with the game are good for new players, and I still have some in builds, e.g. For killer: Jolt, or Sloppy Butcher. For survivor: Lightweight, or Deja Vu.
By playing the game, you earn Iridescent Shards which can be used to purchase things, but not Licenced DLC. They're good for unlocking a survivor or killer where you don't necessarily want to buy both together in the dlc, so you can unlock one or the other.
Secondly: Only ever buy DLC chapters when they're on sale. There's typically sales whenever something new is added, and seeing as Nicolas Cage is releasing next week, there's probably going to be a sale on all, but him.
Thirdly, research the killers and their survivor counterparts before making purchases/investments. It's best to know what you're getting into before you commit your hard earned cash to something am I right? Look up killer powers, survivor and killer perks, survivor and killer outfits, etc.
