Why do you hide you name?
I'm curious why players hide their name?

I feel like in an online game you shouldn't have that choice. you're choosing to play a public game, anonymity shouldn't be necessary.

I do find though, that killers who mask their name tend to tunnel/Slug/Camp more because they feel freer to do so.

I've personally never been one to hide myself online.

So if you do, why do you hide your name?

Killers have an advantage stalking survivors profiles, prestige numbers... Giving them infos if they dodge lobby or not...

There shouldn't be your steam name at all, it is a weird a half baked system. Games should have easily changeable name inside and there should be option to connect your ingame profile to whatever facebook you want.

And also so that you can change your name to PegMeDadyWeskar without being cringe in steam forums.

Insults or death wishes from survivors are quite common in my post-match chat as killer.

I want to avoid further harassment.

You mostly get advice on how to unalive yourself in DBD chat.

I didn't actually know any of the words like tunnelling or face camping etc... I mostly picked them up in between insults. I still mostly don't know what they mean because they're used inconsistently.

classic moronic assumption any time someone asks a question they must be mad

because usually posts like these are an outlet for someone's saltiness? are you new here? Just like people who make the same posts complaining about "private steam profiles".

Don't even worry about it, just breathe a sigh of relief they outed themselves and leave those games when you see them. 9/10 they're just going to be toxic and are trying to avoid repercussions when they ruin the game.

You sound like you care way too much.

those specific people were bad....blaming literally every player for something a handful have done is the reason this cycle keeps on going

I hide it because I got tired of survivors when I played killer, commenting on any screen shots I've posted to hurl insults at me to get behind me turning off public comments, or even going so far as to going off of the Steam platform where they can find me on another (like Reddit or Youtube) to harass me with death threats or telling me to KMS simply because they lost in a video game.

Most of the time I play killer it's not even serious builds. Just meme ♥♥♥♥ like small terror radius doctor, a pig build that makes people scream a lot, or some Hex totem Wraith build.

It's the internet though, these people mean nothing and words on a screen should be easily overlooked.

That doesn't matter. Telling someone to end their life because someone is so entitled that they think that is a valid response to losing in a video game is sociopathic behavior.

Really, I'm tired of people excusing that kind of behavior because "It's the internet". It doesn't matter when, where, what or how it happens. It's wrong to do and I don't want to be harassed or threatened any time, much less outside the game when the only "crime" I did was not let the other team get a free win after I went out of the way to make sure everyone had a chance to play with my inefficient build in the first place.

I've seen other communities suffer from similar people; they're everywhere, but DBD is genuinely the only place where, at least from my experience, I could be told to kill myself every other day.

Not all anonymous players play in an extremely rude and unfun way, but most rude/unfun players are anonymous.

The question was in the post, you can be wrong all you want, I was curious and most of these answers have satisfied my curiosity.

I feel like this mentality shows the difference between people, I don't let words on a screen affect me.

It must be the type of person you are, whether you're emotionally/mentally strong or not, I've never been fussed about what is said online and I've been abused in games like CSGO and Hunt showdown which I found the community worse.

I think all in all this thread has proven that some people arent mentally strong enough to deal with comments online, so instead of ignoring it they would rather hide behind anominity and have it not happen, understandable I guess.

More like to avoid unsportsmanlike behavior. I had the displeasure of being in another match as the previous killer I was matched against. He proceeded to tunnel me until I died after having found me.

I hide my name when I'm playing on the Steam Deck because I play significantly worse on it. I don't know how console players do it.
