Hey I won't get sued if I steal this concept for a book right?
Long story short, I want to use the concept of fueling generators and going up against killers with a twist. The idea is that those who died can go to heaven or choose to play a game where you have to fuel and fix generators, and if you win x number of games, you'll be brought back to life and be given a wish.

In the game-play aspect of the story I'm writing, I wonder if I'll get sued for it.

I'd recommend consulting with a lawyer who specializes in copyrights rather than the steam forum.
...Fam what's the name of the book, sounds interesting if you can pull it off ngl.

sounds kind of like an anime that was made into a netflix series, which I probably shouldn't name because the premise isn't really explained until late in it

as long as you don't use any trademarks like character names you can claim you used the game as inspiration, or as a 'transformative work'

I still need to make it; I'm in the process right now. I will release the rough draft for free on my blogger story page once I get a decent chunk of work on it.

I would like to get dev answers or to be given logical advice. With lawyers, so far, it's a coin toss of, "well depends on how transformative you are with the work," and "depends on if the company wants to even bother with taking you to court."

The devs don't read this forum, if you want a hope of getting a response from them you should try the official DBD forums. As far as logical advice that won't really matter in court. Also, just because a developer says it's fine doesn't mean the company wouldn't sue you. You'd really need to get in touch with something like their legal department to get their opinion on it.

In the end though I'd really listen to the lawyers you've talked to as it sounds like they have already given you solid advice.

So I'm going the transformative route then; I've already thought of several different ideas to make my concept different from the video game itself.

We have some pretty strict guidelines in place for fan created content, they also must be non money making.
