Go to the source properties and tick the anti-cheat compatibility hooking. It works for me.
start OBS with administrator rights. So basically rightclick it - run as admin. Additionally I think you have to do that anti-cheat thingie.
It will not trigger a VAC ban. Not sure about EasyAntiCheat (which is what DbD uses), but it shouldn't.
Monitor capture works fine in Windows 8 and up, other than potentially allowing stuff that shouldn't be on stream to be broadcasted out, like personal financial details or your address if you put the wrong window onto the capped monitor. It's much safer to use specific window and game captures to keep full control and prevent accidents.
Monitor capture is terribad and slow in Windows 7 and should be avoided at all costs. There's a workaround for W7 if you need to cap a complete monitor, but it doesn't bear going into here as no one should be using it for DbD.
I also have an issue with Nvidia Shadowplay (it never saves any videos, red strike through the recording icon).
Using the solution mentioned here (run as admin, anti cheat hook) doesn't work. I've tried so many possible solutions with Shadowplay before, I'm really starting to wonder what the hell my problem is. I have an otherwise healthy computer, an i7 CPU, Geforce 970, 16 gigs of RAM and so on. Running on Win 7.
Edit: Interestingly, when I check the "Fullscreen Projector (Source)", it says "Display 0: 1920x1080 @ 0,0".
I have a rather new BenQ monitor that supports up to 144hz, which is what I've set the display to in the Nvidia control panel. What gives? Why does the recording software show it as "0,0"?
Thank you so much for explaining this. ^-^
