This doesn't work for me. I can only see the killer player name once it's in game. The below doesn't work for everyone in the lobby is my guess.

Devs are going to change this in a future patch so there is more suspense about not knowing who the killer is until you see them or hear them make noise.
I think you are doing it work. "Recently played with" shows empty, but you need to check "players" instead. On attached picture you see example of killer that has private profile, with is why he isn't show as "in-game" but you can still see his name. It also doesn't show survivor names if you are survivor yourself.
