Killer: Follow scratch marks?
I seem to have a really hard time actually following scratch marks. They just seem to be all over the place. Is there an advance guide on following scratch marks?

Maybe someone good at it can help me in a private game?

Follow bloodtrails, scratch marks are more for a general direction.

Scratch marks are useful but don't rely entirely on them, try to avoid breaking line of sight in the first place, and also, now when to give up, odds are you aren't going to find a survivor just by scratch marks so if they are gone, leave em and find someone else

You'll get used to tracking scratches with time, but blood is more reliable if you see any.

Just be careful of random scratches. I just had a game on the cornfield where I followed scratches being made by an invisible entity. Really weird stuff.

yeah ive seen these. i think they are cause by survivors that have escapes or possibly died as they appear under the map in a running animation.

Ignore others, scratch marks are 100 easily tracked. The trick to do it like a pro is look like 5-7 feet in front of you not down directly and follow the overall direction. Blood is what you should start following only if they start walking around to be stealthy.

You should be able to follow them as well as blood trails in the end. Just remember they appear as an aura around the char. So if they pass by trees it will be on the ground and trees etc... Follow whatever you think is the middle.

Look ahead and notice how marks appear on trees/buildings for the main direction of a surv runner.

Beware survs who run in circles or backtrack.

Predator 3 is extremely powerful if undersood thoroughly.

Generally when I see scratch marks, I find the direction they are going and swing in a crescent shape to where I think it's going. This usually means I end up seeing them running through the grass or around an object before I even get to them. Or with luck, you'll end up cutting them off and they run right into you. (This has happened at least twice to me thus far.) Other times, if you think they are gone, you're still near the middle of the map and can choose a good course of action after that.

Look for the heavy clusters and follow those. Blood trails are better. The heavy clusters of scratches are where the feet were. The everywhere scratches indicate direction more than anything.
Not sure if it's been said, but follow BRIGHT scratches as they are the more recent ones. Fading or dim scratches are not the right way. Blood is by far the better thing to follow if you can see it, but if not oh well. If scratches suddenly stop search the immediate area and closets. Also if you can sound ♥♥♥♥♥, you might be able to hear them in pain (if you hit them already) or breathing really heavy if it's been a bit of a run.

scratches can bug out and project well beyond where the survivor stopped running to as well.....

sigh. lets assume i haven't hit them yet.

I didn't know they showed up as an "aura". Do they really project beyond? is this a bug or something i as a survivor can abuse? like i go right for 50 miliseconds and then continue running left and hope he gets confused and goes right?

Same here. All survivors were downed (crawling state) yet there were scratch marks around a few of them. Go figure

Also keep an eye out for crows landing on rocks that you yourself have never passed. I've found numerous survivors this way as it gives you a general idea of where they ran even without scratch marks. In regards to scratch marks, keep your eyes up and scan ahead of you. You will notice areas where the marks continue. Follow those areas.

The aura thing is intentional or else it probably would had been fixed long ago. The main reason for it is so you can see the marks from very far distances as they will appear up sides of trees and such. This does mean they will appear as far in front as it does to the side(When you get towards the R1's teams will actually try to run across each others path when you're chasing to confuse you on marks).

I actually haven't seen to many projected super far out except for at the very end due to survivors running under the map etc... causing it on walls normally. However, when you're chasing if they have some distance they may hide to side near end of the marks and sprint back over them which is very confusing.

I want to add a note of caution to this statement. Predator III can make tracking more difficult becuase the trails last longer. If you come upon a trail it can be difficult at a glance to tell which is the start and which is the end. This is not true when tracking normally as one side always fades quickly. The running in a circle technique also really makes Predator hurt you more than help you. Predator is insanely good if everyone is using lightweight but if they are not you might get confused when you first start using it.

The other problem is that really good survivors don't run much anyway. I much prefer bloodhound III as it makes the blood trail easier to follow (not as much as it did before it got buffed and nerfed at the same time -intensity traded for duration). The only problem with bloodhound is that it does nothing before you hit them. But once you have them wounded you can pretty much track them forever.

Something else I can suggest you do when you first start playing is to crank up the sound stupidly high. You can hear people breathing much easier that way as well as footsteps and other noises. The devs really don't want you to do this... which is why they play the stupidly loud chase music.
