DC Penalty is just a punishment for people with bad internet

I'm ngl, I hate the DC penalty. No one I've ever watched or played with has ever cared about the DC; sometimes it was seen as funny and it would really help with people who have specific phobias (like me with vomit. Love Plague but I can't play as/against her). Considering this isn't a consistently competitive game and comp plays are kept almost exclusively to streaming tournaments, the impact on the other survivors is minimal. If a survivor gets that ticked that someone DCs because it gives them less of a chance of surviving, I'm giving them the official go-ahead to take a break because it's unhealthy and frankly stupid to let a video game affect you that much.

The big thing for me is that any time I DC, chances are it's because my internet flickers for a second. At the time of writing this, my last killer game had me DC right at the end of it, right after finding the last survivor, because my internet flickered for quite literally two seconds. I lost all my BP, all of my challenge progress, and then a ban penalty on top of that, for something that was never my fault to begin with. I really think the loss of BP and challenge progress is penalty enough, especially since you rarely play with the same person in soloQ twice in weeks, so there's literally absolutely zero reason for a timed ban. It feels like a punishment for people with bad internet, especially since instead of DCing, people can just kill themselves on first hook. Same impact on the other survivors, so it is quite literally just a punishment for people with bad internet.

EDIT: Apologies for being salty lmao that is not a good look. I do have pretty stable internet where I am. Due to a change in provider in my area, it causes a very rare flicker (once every few months, sometimes in a longer interval). It's not a matter of me being upset because I have less than optimal internet, I was irrationally angry at losing my challenge progress more so than anything. For that I do apologize. However, I would like to leave this up to get people's thoughts on the penalty as a whole. Thank you guys for being patient with me despite the above <3 A lot of what I'm seeing has really changed my view on it.

You can call customer service til you’re blue in the face. It’s the equivalent of telling bhvr there game is going to ♥♥♥♥. They hear you but they don’t care.

This is actually true - and the guy below you is just suffering from some sort of misplaced anger. It never ceases to amaze me how people claim they have 'horrific' internet, but will play team games and will have regular d/c issues and don't address them. Look at your modem, your router, ISP, coaxial cables, there's so many things that could be affecting it. Stop hurting others because you don't want to do anything about your internet.

Well sorry to say, but the penalty wouldn't be in place unless too many people were DCing. Internet or actively doing so, it doesn't matter. If anything the penalty needs to be bigger to better punish people ruining the game by choosing to DC which is on the rise it seems.

really, people don't care about others dcing? Dunno what you're talking about I hate rage-dcs at the start of a match. Wastes my and the killers' time. Or my and the survivors' time. But if you're angrier at the DC Penalty than actual dcing I guess that's a personalized feeling you get because of the frequency of your unintentional dcs.

When (and IF) bots get added as replacements for leavers in public matches, there and then the DC penalty won't be needed anymore. As for now, it's the best solution we have.

Sure, having crappy internet may not be *your* fault per se - but what about the players you leave behind because of it? Why do they have to pay for your insistence of playing even when you're fully aware that you have bad internet and could disappear from the match at any moment?

I've been on both sides of the fence and I can't say that DC penalties are completely unfair. Think about others, this is not an online RPG where disconnecting only affects you - you're ruining the match for others.

all online games have dc penalty ❗ whatever the reason , when one goes DC , it is odd and unpleasant for other players ... personally when i get one dc after a match cuz of bad internet , i simply stop playing until i fix it cuz i respect the other players ... bad net is most of times predictable by simply testing speed before playing ❕ ♥

If you have bad internet you should not even play MP games in the first place you wont be able to play properly and you will also be messing other people matches if you happen to lose connection in the middle of a match etc.

DC penalty is fair, if you DC you deserve the penalty, it sucks when the internet goes out but it shouldn't be happening often enough that you have longer than a 5 min cooldown and if it does happen more often than that you shouldn't be playing online games until your provider gets it sorted. DC'ers definitely ruin the game for 4 other people.
