You can look at their steam charts to see how many people play.
Even if the game starts dying anytime in at least 2 years I can see devs putting the game on a sale or making it free to play.
Devs need to make some changes if they want the game to grow. New game modes, etc.
New players are indeed often discouraged as survivor or killer, one reason being the lack of perks when they reach higher than rank 17.
While you don't need any perks, a new player will probably prefer them. Plus, you have to deal with the behavior of other players, either the bm in chat, or the behavior within the game from both sides.
Had I no friends to play with when I bought this game, I would have requested a refund before I got two hours of gameplay in.
