No brightness control?
I have my desktop set pretty dark by default, but can I not set the in game brightness? I'm at a severe disadvantage here, I literally can't see anything. Most of my matches I spend just trying to navigate the terrain.

This is to make it so that Killers and Survivors don't have an advantage over each other. The only way to set brightness is through your monitor.

This is probably because there are items and perks that control in-game brightness, so having an options menu do it would render them pointless. I also have my desktop pretty dark (although I don't know what yours is like) and I adjusted quite well.

as a survivor the darkness is your friend,
as a killer there is actually a perk that actually lightens up and brightens your field of view ^^
The game is most of the time pretty dark.
Controling your brightness for this game would be cheating.

Unfortunatly all you can do is try to adjust the gamma of your actual monitor. There is a very good reason why there is no brightness feature in the game, and that's because the game adjusts brightness as a mechanic, based on perks, add-ons and offerings. Sometimes you're not supposed to see very well. Other times you can see a survivor all the way across the map.

Same reason for not having separate music and effects volume.

Not everyone has the same monitor or monitor settings.
