combine it with counterforce for when it wears off

yeah. But you still need to kind of know where totems usually spawn.

true, also resilience provides a speed buff so if you're injured or using no mither you can get totems done even faster

Detective's Hunch is still my go-to.
Ruin isn't really in effect until after you start getting the easy gens, so you just pop 1 gen and now you know where all the totems (not to mention chests/gens) are.
Also knowing the area where a dull totem is can be really useful against NOED. When the last gen pops just run to the totem and see if it is lit.

Its my favorite perk for finding totems since I don't need to wait for anything (gen completion, doing dull totems) and I can start finding totems and break them ASAP.

That said, it has no Z-axis, so if you are in an in-doors map with a notification, you would not know if the totem is on the first or second floor.

they random spawns so sometimes its kinda tough to find, also noed can be tricky if killer has no ruin or hex tottem visible in mid game, so this perks motivates me to get them maybe

Small game is the most consistent perk to actually find the totems because it doesn't have any prerequisites. I had games where Detectives Hunch let me down by not showing me exactly the one totem I needed to find.

Small game is also nice if you haven't bothered with bones all game and suddenly have to find NOED.

Counterforce seems to be a kind of snowball anti hex perk that you need to get rolling and that might waste you time chasing the totem trail. Probably awesome against hex heavy builds but underwhelming otherwise.

Small game is great, best totem perk imo. Only a few seconds cool down, more precise location ability over time, and even being able to tell how many totems are left in the match. It also pairs nicely with Counterforce if you're going for some totem challenges.
Counterforce hands down. Small game was ok but I found it mostly annoying for a few reasons. I played with it for a solid week and maybe 1 or 2 out of every 10 games all 5 would get done.

With counterforce you can easily do all 5 totems by yourself in the first 2-3 minutes by finding a totem right away which isn't hard then head directly to the next one unless you happen to spot on one the way to the far away one. If you lose count or by some crazy turn of events someone else on your team actually does a totem you still know when they are all done when you don't see one light up as you finish one. Takes no time at all, so much faster than Small Game and being able to make sure noed isn't happening is so satisfying.

I've been using it for 4 days now and 8 maybe even 9 out of 10 games all of them get done, it's glorious.

Small Game is great, especially playing without friends, to monitor how many totems are left. You also don't have to do anything to activate it unlike other totem finding perks.
