I'd love to know where you heard these rumours. You got a source?
Imagine a mod where you could see spirit in her phase form 100% of the time. You can bet your ass the download for that mod would be 100% and people would justify it saying "THE GAME IS FUN AGAIN NOW THAT I KNOW WHERE SHE IS AT ALL TIMES."
At the same time, imagine a mod turning every single survivor into wearing hot pink clothing. Would you consider this fair as a survivor?
Icons are one thing. Game files to modify what characters, traps, etc look like is another thing entirely.
Perk icons are stored in a side folder of unencrypted thumbnails. you can literally just open the images in MS Paint or some ♥♥♥♥ and "mod" your own perk icons.
What you're talking about is unpacking and modifying .pak files of the game's essential textures that they use to render things in, like grass, trees, rocks, and other environmentals (including traps). EAC will detect that very quickly, and I believe there was a ban wave a while back where they caught a bunch of people using FOV hacks by modifying the same files. Right around the release of like 4.2.0 they put a flag out for anyone who touched those files.
What I think the YTer was talking about was the fact that the leaked PTB build from Ghostface's release has started up an impromptu modding community. They're playing and modding for an outdated version of the PTB Dev Branch that got published by accident. You have to manually connect with other people in custom games, you cannot connect to servers, and you're stuck on that particular version. The devs are currently very tentative about the whole thing because it's encouraging people to dig around in the game files that they shouldn't have access to.
So what does this entail? Does anyone know if we can still have perk/addon/offering/etc icon mods? Or Do y'all think that we're going to get banned. Any information that anyone can provide or share would be appreciated a ton!
The changes were to prevent players from editing actual gameplay elements and assets (basically anything besides the UI). Such as player models, environmental textures and audio.
