How long does i take to unlock all characters just by playing

I have 500 hours on this game and only been able to buy like 4 characters with shards so all I can say is that it will take long

2 or 3 characters for every 500 hours of playtime on average. Considering that you aren't buying any cosmetics and only one perk from the Shrine every 2-3 weeks.
It's really slow, I would recommend getting DLCs if you're not into grinding.

I would personally just buy the killers with auric cells.... I am not grinding to 9k iridescent shards and then rinse and repeat 50 times to get everything.

You can't earn the licensed characters using in-game currency. Otherwise, each character takes about 70 hours to earn enough currency to buy one. You can do the math there.

The chapter comes with a extra survivor cosmetic, so there's a small incentive to buy the chapter over using Iridescent Shards or Auric Cells.

You can't. Cosmetic characters can't be grind. So real money still involve.

Also if you going for grind characters, then it would be around 100 hour for 9000 shard.

If you aren't spending a lot of time ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ around in the menus and get into games fairly quickly, it should take about 80-90 hours or less to save up 9k shards. Someone did the math in a thread a while back, and it takes about 60-70 hours of being in trials to reach.

I've played around 1400 hours (with lots of time afking in menu) and got 13 characters, 3-4 perks from the shrine, 2 of the 9k blighted skins from this event, various other skin pieces totalling ~7k... and right now I have a balance of ~15k shards.
So if I'd bought characters instead of skins and shrine perks, I'd probably have all the characters by now.

Since I've probably spent upwards of 100 hours tabbed out with DBD running in the background, I think this guy's estimate is around about right.
