Self care isn’t necessarily a waste of time (though it can be). Healing is basically investing time now to give yourself extra time later to survive in chases. So the question is does the amount of time it takes you to self care give you back more time than you spent in a chase?
With a medkit, it takes 16 seconds to heal yourself. If it takes the killer more than 16 seconds to reinjure you in a chase then you’ve basically gained time by healing. Likewise with Selfcare it takes 32 seconds to heal, so if you normally last longer than that in a chase before being hit then it’s a net gain.
Obviously there are going to be other considerations, but that’s the idea. Whether or not Self Care is useful is going to mostly come down to how much extra time it takes the killer to bring you back to being injured, so if you are a stronger looper than the killer player you’re facing it could pay off. On the other hand if you’re facing a killer who can injure you really quickly like Legion or a killer player who is better at loops than you then it might be a waste of time and you should stick to trying to get the gens done. (32 seconds is a really long time to not be doing a gen if you’re not getting enough of a payoff for it.)
So, if you don't heal up, you'll get hooked like any other killer.
But unlike other killers, maybe the best state to be in is 99% heal instead of a full heal.
Because the time you and your teammates waste healing, especially if he has anti-healing perks, is a ton of time you could spend doing generators. He's also the easiest killer in the game to take your entire team from healthy state to injured state. It shouldn't surprise you to know that outside of his power he's a basic, easy to loop M1 killer.
So the answer is "I can't loop" But even if you can't loop well, if your entire team stays injured and does generators, and splits up, it won't matter if you go down in 30 seconds, you'll be out in no time.
same reason to heal against one shot kills, so you can actually hide from them without them knowing where you are right away?
of course it also depends on the situation and state of the game. Some killers it is much better to spread out rather than stick close to other survivors.
Much like people who unhook right away annoy me, especially if they are camping them, wasting valuable progress.
I make it a point to unhook right before they about to enter the next phase, using the time during for repairs or other objectives.
Example: if you know legion is chasing a survivor for a long time (empanthy, alert, or you see it in the distance)and you are still on first or 2nd hook...no point in healing use that time to get gen done then heal after as long as you got your portion done you can heal if you want..simple as that..
but healing is perfectly fine against a legion if you ask me lol.
