Is Leatherface truly a licensed Killer?
Wasn't Texas Chainsaw Massacre based on real events? If so, then there shouldn't required to license Leatherface if he was a historical figure.....well this is what I would argue if the devs used his real name instead of Leatherface, which I am sure the creators of TCM own the rights to. I mean, they didn't even release a survivor from the TCM series, so there really was no point in wasting money to license a character who isn't fictional. I hope that the devs performed their research and weighed their options before licensing Leatherface.

"Based on real events" should never be trusted with Hollywood. It pretty much means "inspired by something barely similar". It is licensed.

Leatherface is loosely (and I mean, very loosely) based on Ed Gein, the same guy Norman Bates is based on.

Don't believe in everything you see. It was a very effective publicity stunt back then.

I just did a little research, and it turns out that Ed Gein inspired a lot of movies including Psycho (Norman Bates) and Silence of the Lambs (Buffalo Bill).

IMO, the devs should have just released a Killer using his real name, and design unique skillset similar to what they did with the Doctor. Releasing a copy of Billy seems kind of...a waste of licensing fees, but what do I know?

it's better from a !!MARKETING!! standpoint to say "We have Leatherface form Texas Chainsaw Massacare in our game" than it is to use his real name that many people are probably less familiar with and hope that people get it.

Again, I highly doubt that players will flock to this game because Leatherface is in the game. Michael Myers....definitely yes since MM is synonymous with horror films. Seems like a waste to me.

I mean, the killers tend not to use licensed killers actual names in game, they're more like nods. We all know Michael Myers, but in the killer menu he is known as "The Shape" (and sure, he was credited in the credits of the original movie that way, but come on) and Leatherface is called "The Cannibal"

I think this is how it's going to be for all licensed killers, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, I think it makes them sound a bit unique especially for DBD.

flock? No...people aren't going to magically flock to a game that's a year and a half old for just about anything.

Sell a few hundred copies? Maybe a thousand. A distinct possibility.
