the original is regarded as one of the best horror movies ever made. it influenced so much, Rob Zombies whole career comes from that movie in the 70s

The original and the remake are both good. There were a bunch of lackluster sequels. Especially TCM: The Next Generation with Renee Zellweger and Matthew McConaughey. That one is an absolute stinker.

The TCM: The Next Generation does have the first gender transitioning killer as somewhere along the way Leatherface decides he wants to be a woman. You can look up Dr. Wolfula's review on Youtube to get a review about how crappy the movie is. Lots of swearing in it so I won't post a link.

Real question is: Why would you need Leatherface in DbD to start watching his movies?

To answer your OP: Yes some of the later movies are meh but how can you enjoy the horror genre without watching those movies?

watched the new version,still have to see the old ones
