Research and findings on Breathing, injury and perks that affect it
I got together with fellow killer main Tanya Degurechaff and we hopped in KYF to test a few things. It was enlightening, to say the least.

First, we wanted to see exactly how much Stridor actually matters and ow it is affected by Iron Will and No Mither's sound reduction effects. The results were astounding.

Important factors in avoiding/detecting injured survivors:

1. Field of Vision. The sound detection is stronger in the killers FoV. I stood behind Tanya while injured with just No Mither and she could hear me, but barely. Even with her using Stridor 3 and me running Iron Will 3 and No Mither 3, I was dead silent even humping her♥♥♥♥♥or standing right in front of her. With just one, she could hear me out to approximately 10 ft. while I was in her FoV. If I was exhausted and injured with both perks she was using Stridor, she could hear me faintly at about 10 ft. in her FoV, but not t all out to 10 ft. if i was out of it.

2. Perks. Iron Will is the king of stealth perks. It utterly negates injured breathing noises at any worthwhile distance. No Mither is not quite as strong, but it's still 'good enough', given the lack of blood. Combined, the two perks make you undetectable.

3. Exhaustion. Exhaustion makes you breathe a LOT louder. A good stealth build will forego exhaustion perks except as a lost resort. That means if you want to hide, lay off the Sprint Burst, Lithe, Dead Hard, Adrenaline and Balanced Landing.

4. Objects: Objects between the killer and survivor mean nothing at all. Only perks, distance, exhaustion and FoV matter.

5. Lockers: Lockers muffle the sound of injured breathing immensely.

6. Chasing: Chasing made it even harder to hear the breathing, and even the footstep noise didn't help because it gets negated by the killer's steps, environmental noise, and the chase music. I've never wanted a way to disable chase music more in my life.

With no Stridor and just IW3, I was undetectable, period. Even in her FoV and within 10 ft. Exhaustion made me somewhat detectable.

Conclusion: Stridor's value is nearly negligible if any number of survivors are running breathing noise reduction perks. Basically, a survivor with No Mither 3, Iron Will 3, Lightweight 3 and Quick and Quiet is nigh-undetectable, but vulnerable if found. No blood, no pain grunts, scratchmarks vanish instantly and entering lockers is utterly silent at anything beyond 10 or so feet. 10 feet is the safe range for an injured survivor - beyond that, you can't be detected except with eyeballs outside of the killers FoV.

Killers: Reconsider Stridor's place in your loadout. It has uses, but with the existence of two perks that can negate it entirely or reduce its effects so much it may as well be negated its usefulness is minimal, not to mention that being outside your FoV hurts your detection.

Survivors: Run Iron Will if you can spare ANY perk slots at all. No Mither's downsides make it iffy, but if you are confident in your ability to not get hit then it's godlike. Any two of not exhhausted, Iron Will, No Mither, greater than 10 ft. and a locker makes you nearly undetectable. Any three makes you totally undetectable at all ranges.

Let me be clear: Stridor 3 does make them hearable even in a chase with both perks, but only IF the survivor is exhausted and you are within 10 feet and they're in your FoV, and the sound is VERY faint. That is a lot of variables to consider. Decide for yourself if Stridor is worth it in light of that knowledge.

That's why the devs need to get off their lazy asses and fix Stridor. They've promised it for months but done nothing while Survivor perks got fixed in a jiffy.

I mean, at least enduring is finally fixed so there's a legit counter to DS. But that took forever.

Tanya Degurechaff such a nice player. Always down to test and find new things.

You guys should test it out when you drop from a ledge or while/after running.

Suffice it to say, these findings made me immediately take Stridor off the list of useful perks. At low ranks when survivors might not know better or have many perks its godlike, but beyond rank 15 stop using it. But even at low ranks, no killer worthh their salt needs Stridor to find a newbie survivor.

We did. Chasing made no difference at all, in fact you reminded me i need to add something: Chase music makes hearing them EVEN HARDER.

So I've tested some things with Tanya which you guys may or may not have already tried. It's unrelated to usage of Stridor but it does effect breathing. FoV is right, it makes a big difference. Falling from ledges while injured makes the same grunt as uninjured, falling from ledges while downed however gives off no grunt (but makes a thumping sound). Here is now vault information I've gathered. Note that Stridor effects none of these.

Sprint Vaulting: No grunt at all, only thump. Using Q&Q means virtually no noise.
Medium Vaulting: Tiny grunt.
Slow Vaulting: Noticeable grunt.

Hm, didn't know Exhaustion makes it louder

Wow, this is useful stuff. Thanks a lot OP.

Me neither... a nice unexpected downside to a bunch of useful perks.

Well ♥♥♥♥. I'll add this to the vaulting research.

Post about Myers, heartbeat range and survovor detection perks like OoO, Spine Chill, Premonition and Alert coming up. That one shouldn't be as long since it was pretty cut and dry. After thhat myself and Tanya have a post with video displaying wraith's lune range with and without Windstorm addon coming out of cloak. It's massive, to say the least.

Well it would make sense. Ever been in a situation where you are gasping for breath.. How much more sound you tend to make compared to when you are not?

It surprised the hell out of me, too. Tanya clued me in to it, and when we tested it I was stunned.

I have found my prey after losing it several times thanks to Stridor, they were hiding behind stuff, I heard them breath and found them, I really enjoy detection perks alot.
