Besides that, it was tested back in the beta and scrapped as people mostly asked how to mute others. It destroyed the immersion.

No idea. I only know that the devs have tested an in-game open voice chat at one time during the game's beta stega (I think back in March 2016) and people mostly only complained about others and wanted to mute them.
