Legendary skins and their problem (Death of the DBD artstyle?)
Might be an unpopular opinion but carry on till the end of this thread please.

Title.
Yeah you've read it right, death of Dead By Daylight artstyle, what artstyle you ask?

This game used (and still is) pretty dark and over the top sometimes, it has silly moments but it's mostly an horror/action game, I do believe that Legendary skins will be amazing and that it's a neat idea, but a part of me still thinks that they are going to ruin the game a lot, that these skins will be simply a way for developers to implement unrelated stuff that doesn't fit in Dead By Daylight and call it "okay" cuz it's technically a skin and doesn't ruin the game for anyone (except it does for reasons I'm about to say):

Legendary skins might look cool on paper, but at the end of the day they are a new way to put new characters in the game without them having to worry about new perks, new maps and new content in general (that will still probably come with each chapter but still)...

A single DLC costs 7 dollars, Legendary skins (assuming they will cost like a normal skin if not more) will be 10 dollars, you won't have a new killer and no six new perks, just your character with a skin that doesn't fit most likely into the game.

They already added the elephant skin for Clown (which by the way, it's an amazing skin) but a part of me can't look at him seriously, it's just a cool skin that looks really stupid and not scary at all, my brother (who mind you, doesn't play the game cuz he thinks it's unbalanced and hard) just saw him and didn't have any reaction, just a little laugh and nothing more, and he's one of those players that can't play the game at all and that gets jumpscared even for killers like Trapper with distressing tier 3.)

I literally want to ask just one single thing to the devs, since this is coming anyway in the game: please be serious, please don't add things that don't fit in DBD just because they are skins, please add legendary skins on characters that fit with said skins, such as for example Cheryl (giving her all the Silent hill themed legendary skins for survivors for example, and not a James skin for someone like Jake or Dwight for example, or L4D related content to Bill for example), please mantain a logic when it comes to content, don't add stuff in game just because you can, TF2 did that and that game is pretty much dead from an artstyle point of view...

At the end of the day it's not a problem to have Legendary skins, but there's a really solid line between new content and a new way to grab money by ruining your game with over the top things that don't make sense (just look at the new Legion skin about to come out with Robbie the rabbit from Silent Hill, it's a cool skin, but why? It's probably not a legendary skin but it still doesn't make sense on why it's getting added aside from the funny reference to the franchise itself).

Also speaking about Legion, the whole point of that character was that you could've changed your skin and transformed him in another person, when it was first added to the game everyone felt underwhelmed by the fact that you only had one character that wasn't him, and had to pay for the other 2, now with the addition of these skins the killer lost one of the cool features it had and it's now simply a killer that starts with 1 free legendary skin, so unless Legendary skins are restricted (and I hope so) to survivors only, Legion pretty much is even less appealing when it comes to his look.

TL;DR: Legendary skins are a cool idea, but completely ruin the artstyle concept of the game and it's an excuse for devs to not make new perks, killers and survivors but just adding them to the game at a bigger price than a normal DLC in form of skins for characters that don't have any correlation at all (most likely) except being a base model to that skin, please devs when you add them, keep a logic between them and don't just add ♥♥♥♥ because you can.

I like the idea of having an alt character as just a skin instead of needing to level up an entirely new survivor/killer.

I do however, Dislike the removal of mix and matching for some skins, I love the silent hill DLC but I am extremely disappointed that Cheryl only has body alt cosmetics and a handful of linked/legendary skins.

I think that it's too early to call how this will effect dbd we will have to see in future expansions.

I dont think killers are getting legendary skins, just survivors. So legion will still be just as unique with the changing skins/voices for the 3(4?) people that make up legion.

They can't just keep adding survivors to fill in every single character people might wanna play, the legendary skins are a good way to add those characters that people wanna play without bloating the all ready bloated perk system. It wont really ruin anything because once you buy a teachable perk any character can do any build you want.

IRC the legendary skins are all ready going to work the way you want them to, x character can change into a b c from his/her franchise.

My problem with skins is that they tend to stand out, and therefore disadvantage you in gameplay. I'm not saying I want skins that make you blend in more, but what I am saying is that I never use cosmetic items because of this.

sometimes you want to stand out though. If you want to be the one chased or the distraction it's good to have brighter clothing.

Sure but what's the point of killer skins that make you stand out even more then? There's really no gameplay advantage there, and god knows I struggle enough as it is without adding glowing lights to my character.

Plus you always see Nea's with neon hair trying to hide and its clearly not working.

I use a glowing one on my trapper, what does it matter if I stand out since my terror radius gives me away anyway xD

The only legendary skin for me is Legacy Trapper.

The fact not many people have it makes it 100000x times way more unique and legendary in my honest opinion.

But anyways if they are not giving legendary skins to trapper then meh ... not interested.

At the end is what people plays most *survivors* and i really dont mind those cosmetics if isnt for trapper ;P :thetrap:

If they don't give legendary skins to killers that's actually good, the whole point is that they are an excuse to not add new actual content or character but to pay more than a normal DLC for a skin of a new character, as long as they stuck with survivors everything is fine, but as soon as they make it for killers as well, they ruin one of Legion features, make it a poor escuse to add licensed content instead of making it DLC and also give this skins to characters that have no corellation to them (for example Jason as Trapper)...

We can only hope it's not for killers lol

I agree with you OP, I think it's a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ thing from devs but we have to see

We can only hope it's restricted to survivors, but even then it doesn't change much of what I said the thread pretty much

We aren't at that level yet, but pretty much we will reach it in no time

Dont think they will stray too much from the horror theme, yeah we have some somehow silly skins , but i think they dont break the inmersion, the elephant clown and the upcoming silent hill legion skins fit well in the horror genre, with killer mascots or animatronics. Is not like slasher films are an example of seriousnes.

The upcoming legion skin won't be legendary most likely since it's a skin themed silent hill but in silent hill it was a costume anyway, I'm talking about making legendary skins for killers like for example Jason for trapper, it would just be a lazy way to not put a new killer in game and think of a power or perks or addons, making it restricted to survivors is the only think I can think of for them so that they don't look like greedy people
