Dead by Daylight

Dead by Daylight

Hex totems are predictable and useless.
I'm pretty new, I expect this has already been said a million times. But just to make it a million and one...

Hex totems are useless. Their spawn locations are so predictable, they generally get destroyed almost immediately. Let alone when they spawn right next to generators or survivor start locations.

Only one I get any use out of is NOED, it's good for maybe one hit, then once survivors realize it's active they home in on the totem like they have GPS and it's gone.

About one game in 10 you might get some fun out of Devour Hope or Ruin, but such games are few and far between.

Yeah most totems, even old Ruin weren't that good. You never used Ruin because it was a good perk. You used it in the off chance it lasted long enough for you to get a hook before it got cleansed so you have more pressure on survivors.

If you can trap your totems (Hag, Trapper) then most totems can be good.

You can also run Thrill, but if you don't have the MS or map pressure to get to your totems, you're going to still lose them regardless.

NOED has been the alternative because most people just ignore dull totems for whatever reason, then they complain the killer shouldn't get a second chance perk while running DS, Unbreakable, Borrowed, and an insta heal medkit. Depending on where it spawns I've seen it much more useful VS other totems. Yeah it can get cleansed, but not as often as others.
LOL at Faith.

Myu, yeah, DS especially is a bit of a pain. 1 minute invincibility after being unhooked at the endgame means it's a more or less a guaranteed escape. Unbreakable I don't mind, I figure if someone's been slugged long enough to use it, fair enough. (I play survivor too.)

I can't trap my totems because I usually play Spirit (if I want a chance of killing some people) or Pig (if I just want to have some fun and mess with survivors but know they'll probably all escape.)

Hex perks tend to be pretty much useless without Thrill of the Hunt to help protect them, unless you happen to play either Trapper, Hag, or Demogorgon. And even then, Hag's not that helpful when you can just crouch to avoid the trap completely. And even then, you can only use traps/portals to protect a hex totem if they're tucked away in a little area and not left in the open.

Some people try to defend hex perks like "The time they spend cleansing the hex totem is time they aren't doing gens!" and it's like... hex totems only take 14 seconds to cleanse. A perk slot that distracts one survivor for 14 seconds really isn't worth it.

The only hex perk I think is decent is Haunted Ground. Now you WANT them to cleanse it so you can get a free down on survivors. You could always use Haunted Ground with other hexes, but since you don't know which hex is which you don't know which totem is worth protecting and you might spread yourself too thin trying to protect 3 totems on top of 5 generators.

Usually, when I bring haunted ground, I bring at least one other hex to force them go cleansing.
Otherwise some survs tend to disregard hexes.

On some maps they are close to impossible to find though.

The main point of hex totems "high risk high reward" is not met so those perks are not need to be played...

killer complains about totem placements? seriously? GUARD your darn totems if you love them so much.. thats the trait of them, love them OR the survs. since the last noed-wave i almost everytime bring maps and small game to clense the hell out of every darn totem, i dont care about gens or surviving.. that stupid little piles of **** needs clensing.. and oh do i clense them again and again and again, and with lorie i use OoO and after clensing a hex one i look at the killer so he can see me tbag and dance like there is no tomorrow.

killers brought that rage to them theirself by squeezing every little bit of cheap and boring gameplay, to get their beloved 5 minutes 4 kill.
Guard these totems and lost 3 gens immediately
its just like 50/50 sometimes totem spawns on very good spot u cant guard your totem because of generator speed

I mean, the answer he was referring to was actually pretty constructive and not what I's call "noob".
Yet, if one can't stand people being not as good as oneself, why don't they keep their butt out of the steam Forums?
I don't agree, OP.

While totems have fixed locations that they can spawn in, the main idea is that they bring nasty powers to the killer. Hex: Devour Hope for instance is a seriously strong perk; it would be incredibly frustrating but also imbalanced to play against if finding it was "very difficult".

It's been said before; the gimmick is that they are "high risk, high reward". Devour Hope for instance works at its best as a snowball hex; survivors panicking are more suspect to not look for the totem, granting you more leverage out of it. It depends on how well you can apply pressure, because if you are not then obviously your hex totems may be found by dedicated totem scavengers/lucky survivors finding it.
Of course, that's also some time they're spending not doing generators.

That said, there are many ways to play with hex perks and I've found t hat Hex: Haunted Ground is an amazing combo perk with any other hex perk. It raises the stakes and gives it a lot more risk to the survivors. Are they gonna cleanse your Ruin or Devour Hope? Or are they unlucky and cleanse a totem, only to see the dreadful "Haunted Ground" Exposed?

Survivors don't know and don't care. If it glows, it goes.

This argument is trash and you know it. How many times a totem spawns at a gen or at surv spawn. How can he protect the totem if the killers is chasing a surv, there are 3 others, it is not like it is hidden well.

You never played a game as killer or you are just posting for the sake of spewing drivel.
