If you can afford Whispers instead, it may be more useful to you. At max level, it gives you a 'reverse Terror Radius,' allowing you to sense whenever a survivor enters your terror radius just like the heartbeat for the survivors alerts them when the Killer's TR overtakes them.

depends on what kind of survivors you are facing, if they are the clauds/neas that urban evade everywhere then it's quite worthless, but if you face confident survivors that run everywhere then it's quite a nice perk

Spies is so-so at rank 1 and 2, it becomes much better when it's at rank 3 where its radius is about the same as your own terror radius. At that point if you are walking along and your terror radius intersects someone, if they start moving then they might disrupt a bird and you'll get an audio and visual cue. At rank 3 it also works well in conjunction with Whispers - you can use Whispers to find a spot where a survivor is within your terror radius, and then the Spies can narrow that down to the exact location. Even if the survivors are crouching everywhere the Spies can still be useful in a chase as a way to augment scratches, showing you where someone went if you lose sight of them briefly.

Also, I agree with the posts above about indoor maps. I like Spies generally speaking at Rank 3 but it's particularly good in indoor maps since it's "wall hacks for birds".

The year was 2016, remarked the day of how awesome spies the shadow was and now we're In 2020 and It's being nerfed to the grave.

It's still useful though, but you'll eventually memorise when a crow is disturbed without your own doing.

I do have one minor tweak I kind of wish they'd make with Spies - replace the generic explosion noise alert sound with a loud bird call. It would be more thematic and also help you distinguish the birds from the other noises.
