Leveling in private sessions
Can we please get this implemented? I think it was a really odd move to bill the game as a "play with your close friends" experience, then making people use the match making in order to progress. This is one of those things that looks like it was at odds with the marketing.

[Warning: Design Tangent - Ignore if level grinding gives you a boner -]
In all honesty: progression systems like this make me a lot less motivated to actually play. I'm getting pretty sick of having to 'level', and 'grind' in just about every game under the sun these days. Personally I feel that casting everyone on even footing tends to lead to the best expieriences. We're already playing a game, we don't need to be constantly carroted by incentive. I want something I can pick up with my frieds and have access to all of the pieces. I don't feel like sinking countless hours into enraging pub matches in order to have access to the full scope of the product I've liscensed. Leveling isn't a good way to keep enjoyment high while playing, and tends to lead to an increase repetetiveness. It's an incredibly lazy and artifical way of adding shelf-life to a game, and to tell you the truth: Dead by Daylight isn't a game that needs this kind of cheese to keep people playing because it's the expierience that is engaging. If you want my two cents: Component testing is a far superior way to up the shelf life in a non-artificial way. By this I mean mixing and matching different combinations of perks/items/whatever. You engage the user in exploration; not with tedious time-gates.

Kind of a rant, sure, but I'm just really sick of nearly every developer thinking people are going to spend 300+hrs with their game. I'm currently looking into ways to circumvent the leveling process: if I get banned from the match making, so be it. It's not my fault someone decided to tack on an annoying time sink convention; which has become more of a brown puddle than the already dead horse it once was. I'm glad I didn't because DBD is great fun, but if I had looked into this matter earlier: I probably would not have purchased the game.

Watching developers get increasingly needy about my time investment in their producting has been something pretty damn hard to stomache. I get the market looks at 'play time' as some sort of valid metric, but what matters most is what you're able to take away from the expierience. There's something to be said for a game that can maximize in such a way. Low time investment to high yield ratio. With something multiplayer centric and buttoned up like DBD, or Chess: it's really in your best interest, concerning average game expierience, flow, and what percentage of the base is going to actually use something you wrote and made assets for: that all players start out on even footing. Quake 3 would have died ages ago if it had some form of ham-fisted progression. After a while the grind just wears you out and you stop giving a ♥♥♥♥; it loses much of its potential as a classic. Much the same way as most of our jobs go. Please don't make us re-enact work psychologically.

Don't get me wrong, leveling works in some games, but this is not that kind of game really. DBD has more in common with Chess than it does with Dark Souls. If you had to gain levels to be able to chose differen't pieces you could gain from getting a pawn across: you'd probably think that was pretty dumb too. In Dark Souls it works as something the community can build their own conventions around: this is why it makes sense: the leveling actually adds to the engagement (quite a feat actually). In most arena games: the leveling absolutley subtracts from the engagement and incentivises a sort of disconnect and efficiency play over playing for purely enjoyment.

I know I'm hammering on this point awfully hard: I'm just trying to really show that this is a little bit more than just opinion. I see this kind of progression convention as a mistake in the eyes of history. It, objectivley, provides the player with a conflict of interest regarding their choices in play. It de-incentivises 'fun', and that's why most games that use this trope don't last very long. If the game is actually any good: it is much better with out it, and DBD is definetly an engaging enough game.

I'm not trying to be a ♥♥♥♥ or anything. This took time to write. If I didn't think highly of DBD I wouldn't have bothered. I just feel like this is one that crosses that line where I have to throw my hands up and go "Alright, I know the industry LOOOOVES this trope, but here's why you're shooting yourself in the foot by using it." I feel like you'd have a way better game on your hands if the top-layer was based on exploration(I'm using this term very loosley) instead of being gated by play time. A lot of my opinion, yes, but it's a fairly educated one. It's not really a matter of whether or not I like this kind of progression so much as it is a matter of whether or not it's actually helpful to what the design goals of the game are.

Alright, the squad can fire now. :2016weiner:

I have heard through the grapevine that people figured out how to play private games for XP.

I still say SWF should have been KYF revamp.... but you get 50% xp.

people would abandon this game if there was no leveling because it is just repetetive gen repairing , this game fun ? hell no . people are only annoyed by it

I hope private games can gain BP but can't rank up. That should be ok right?

I'd rather they just reduce the grind honestly.

There are ways to do this already.

It has to do with download regions and their populations.

Ok I see what you mean. Hence why we shouldn't be able to change regions

I've been told by a friend they're making it so killers can't change their regions but survivors can. I don't agree with it and it'll probably kill the game for me but it would fix this "problem"

That's sounds awesome. Now I won't get killers from the north pole or another planet in my region. Why wouldn't you be happy for this. It means no region hopping killers who want free kills
Despite some want to change to a close region for better queues I understand that may be an issue for you

I enjoy playing in Toronto that's why.

The survivors there are fun to play against.

They talked about it in dev stream. They considered it already, but they aren't gonna do it. The downsides are too huge.
