Matchmaking unfair to beginners
My main grievance with DbD is matchmaking: I'm fairly new to the game with only 50 hours of play and I feel that in half of my matches, whether as Killer or Survivor, I am terribly outmatched.

I am a level 15 survivor and from the moment I turned 15, I keep on getting completely owned by killers that are way better than me or they focus on my weaker team mates, leaving me alone and then owning me.
In the end it feels like I'm getting punished for finally getting the hang of the game and pipping up just to get thrown into games with skilled players I don't stand a chance considering my current skills at the game.

As a Killer, I truly suck so I never onced pipped, but I only ever have a single digit number of games on three different killers. Not only is it near damn impossible to find a game at Killer rank 20 during most of the day, but when I do, I get Survivors with artificially low ranks or even not that low ranks to start with that utterly destroy me. This pretty much forces me to play survivor so I miss out on (at least) half the fun in this game.
I'd really like to be able to play Killer games offline against bots of various degrees of difficulty to learn the basics without waiting for a game for an eternity knowning full well I'll be humiliated by Survivors that grossly outskill me. Usually you just need a single look at the lobby to see which survivors are going to give a hard time, so it ruins all hope for a fun game before it even starts.

Don't get me wrong, I know I have a lot to learn and I want to git gud, but how am I supposed to do that when I get matched with people that might have a low rank at that particular moment, but actually have thousands of hours of playing time on me?

It is just no fun if I can't progress gradually against players that are more or less my skill level. When you start out in peewee Basketball, they don't make you play against ex-NBA players, because it ends up crushing your spirit. Why can't they come up with a fairer matchmaking for DbD then?

I was actually trying to convince friends to play, but considering matchmaking is so heavily skewed against beginners, I don't think I will now

Don't be afraid to lose, losing is part of the game as you can not win every game. Don't become some sad toxic individual. Keep havin fun.

Killer side can be awful aswell. I started play right after initial matchmaking retune. Starting from 4th match I was matched with rank 10 survivors, even 7-8. Now tell me how fun is to play against survivor full top-tier perks and lot of experience as a rank 19 killer with just basic perks, and not even unlocked the 3rd slot...

Then went back to old one, and I finally find survivors at my rank, and it was fun. Now I'm again getting in matches even with red survivors, and I'm still rank 14.

Hey Forever ! Nice to meet you, welcome in DbD !
I totally understand what you said but i'm afraid that you're a little late, in a 3 years old game...DbD, as tons of other games, is full of streamers, progamers, tryharders, ragers and cheaters.
Personaly, i'm a killer main, i played it 2100 hours and this game turned very repetitive, cause its content is very light.
Add me if you want to train in "Kill your friends".
Good luck bro, take care. :HappySpider:
Thanks C1, that's very nice of you.

I actually bought the game in 2016, but didn't stick around long enough because it was very buggy and lobbies were dead aweful.
I recently came back after seeing the game was still around and had a thriving community and actually had a lot of fun at the lowest ranks.

Is the player base just to experienced and small to offer balanced matchmaking for new players?

I've played a ton of Counterstrike and LoL for example and barring the occasional smurfers, I never felt I was being asked to constantly punch above my weight

Blame season's. I was a red rank survivor for a long time, moved on to some other games, came back and was down to rank 17 or 18 from rank 2. That's just what happens now vets are more casual so now I play maybe on the weekends with my friends and we run low rank killers in circles. It's just the way they've decided to do it. Rank does not mean skill.

There is a pretty simple solution to this imo: base matchmaking on rank AND player level.
If you used to have a red rank as survivor/killer but currently deranked to low levels, it is safe to assume that you have a much higher player level than someone who just got to rank 15 for the very first time.

The player level literally shows you nothing but how many hours you played this game, so unless you are the worst DbD player ever, having logged hundreds or thousands of hours means you will have picked up some skills along the way.

Basing matchmaking on rank alone is just BS. By staying inactive for 2-3 months, you go from red ranks straight to noob tier thus giving you an incentive to not play so you can get games that are fun for you and extremely frustrating for everyone else.
I mean come on, what game incentivises NOT playing so you can be toxic to newbies once you come back??? It's just stupid.
I'd honestly prefer waiting 10 min for every game to getting games where you either die after 3-5 min as a survivor or getting humiliated for 25 min as a killer.

I totally second this as a player who plays both sides equally. I am still rank 20 on both sides after a couple weeks playing, and yet routinely get matched against people 10 ranks above me. Those that are close to my rank, it becomes obvious as soon as I get into a chase they're NOT new players.
Adding a new lobby wouldn't be hard to do...a "new players" lobby if you will, where it checks if you have prestiged ANY character before you can enter. While this won't eliminate the problem entirely (if people choose not to prestige and stay at low rank they'd still get in) players like that are rare. It would take only the most toxic players to bother keeping themselves at rank 20 for that long.
Of course, if you suggest anything like this on the actual DbD forums, watch how quickly you get banned.

I have found that the ranks between 15 and 13 are the best for playing, Above 15 you have people who only want to rank up and below 13 you have people who are determined to not lose a rank. Rank in this game means absolutely nothing. You get nothing except an achievement for reaching rank 10, rank 5 and rank 1. Rank in this game so far is all a game of chance. Maybe you win maybe you don't. The learning curve is steep because of the way people play. A lot feel that it is a me only game and will play only to help themselves. Some will play as a team trying to help team mates out. Honestly i play to have fun, I would rather help a team mate out than get out i am at a rank where i would be happy to reset back to the beginning.

The worst part of killer is finding a game to play.
I hear fighting 4man SWF at red ranks is also hell but I have never gotten that far.

Take this as a learning opportunity, you just need to get good enough to fight properly at Rank 15.

" hear fighting 4man SWF at red ranks is also hell but I have never gotten that far."

ohh it is hell all right. They also tend to get very angry and abusive if the killer ends up getting a kill or two.
Worst part is that even at the low ranks (20-16) finding killer games that aren't SWF is really hard too

I'll give you an advice which is kind of contrary to the spirit of the game. GRIND mate ! Grind and farm so much that you have a lot of BP to improve your killers perks and survivors too.
And then with good perks you will be able to survive longer in the game and try some different ways to play ergo improving your gameplay.

I know I should not say its a good way to play because you should start from the bottom and improve with time but DBD is kinda like it.

Hope that will help

People that say dont be afraid to lose are idiots and have an agenda with top rank perks already and 500-3k+ hours played. They love getting to play against those ranks so its easy blood points. Its a dirty little secret that every 13th of the month devs lower everyones rank and the only people that get screwed by it are the newer people. It really ruins the game. YOU CAN TELL WHEN someone is five ranks lower or higher than you easily. It's bad enough survivors can get very low rank players to play with them and use all there experience and top tier perks to act they are the best ever. No they are just normal playing at THEIR rank. Don't even ask the devs why the heck they do this. Don't give me the returning players need to refresh. When they lose a game or two then they will d-rank anyway.I can always tell when someone is 5+ ranks lower than me. Period.

Just noticed the person that said relax had their account banned! LMAO! Glorious. Im sure they were cheating and it was SOOOO easy.

You don't need rank reset to be placed against higher people.

PS: I know my perks were kinda stupid. I had a daily as clown and I most never play him so I got next to no good perks.

Yeah "feels bad man" to see those "rank 14" players just loop and flashlight you for a whole game
