skins and dlc is overpriced (PLEASE READ FULL DISCUSSION)
I understand that the devs need money. But this seems like a bit of a stretch. I don't care about cosmetics too much, but with the new store update I did take a view at some of them.

I like the idea of playtime giving you the option to get shards, and using the shards as a form of currency. But my god the shards are earned so slowly it feels like I'll play 10 matches a day and only earn 300.

Let's talk about auric cells. So I get why the devs would want auric cells. They are basically saying If u want to get the new ♥♥♥♥ without playing that much u can get it by paying money. And I agree with that. But ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. I saw a rare skin that costed over 1000 auric cells (and u can only purchase said skin with auric cells of course) The bundle that has over 1000 auric cost about $10.00. Is a cosmetic really worth 10.00$ to the devs? Let's put it into perspective here. The new killer cost 500 auric cells or 9000 iridescent shards. 500 auric cells is basically 5.00$. The new survivor also costs 9000 iridescent shards or 500 auric cells, which is another 5.00$. So the new killer and survivor combined costs either 18,000 iridescent shards (good luck getting that through playtime) or 10.00$ (which is how much some very rare skins cost). So in the minds of the developers some of these skins cost as much as a new killer and a new survivor. What. The. ♥♥♥♥.

I don't know a solid solution to this, but I have two potential solutions

They should charge people 15.00$ or something in order to earn auric cells through play time. This would encourage people to invest money AND time into the game, because they would pay money to the devs to earn the auric cells to get access to potentially owning all of the cosmetics. As to how much auric cells you earn per match or per player level increase, that would be up to the devs to decide.

My other solution would be to price down the cosmetics, or increase the total number of iridicent shards you earn after leveling up. I also think you should be able to potentially earn 10 iridescent shards after a match like before, and just get a big amount of shards after you level up. This would increase the rate of shards being gained.

Its cosmetics, noone needs to buy them! I do not care how much Devs charge them.

Btw they cost even more when you buy them in Europe... Devs gave conversion rates to several countries but still count 1 Dollar = 1 Euro, which does not match reality and makes auric cells especially expensive for Europeans. This secured my decition never to buy Aurics. But I do not need them being given as present neither.

Shard prices for perks, killers, survs seem okay to me. You cannot expext to earn a full DLC within a few days with just 10 matches a day. I play as much and am totally okay to need several weeks to buy a killer/surv. If you want them faster play more or pay.

I agree with you that cosmetics aren't important. My point in bringing up the cosmetic was to show that the devs have made one cosmetic the same cost as a killer and survivor. That seems ridiculous to me. Casual players get ♥♥♥♥♥♥ over though. I don't have nearly as much time to play between work and school and family ect

"Is a cosmetic really worth 10.00$ to the devs?"

The real question is whether it's worth it to YOU. If not, don't buy it and move on.

The devs altered to prices to more properly fit conversion rates for different countries

While I don't exactly like the prices being as high as they are, they've already given us a ton of free content. (Anniversary Clothes, Frost / Halloween eyes, The Last Breath, Lullaby for the Dark, and Left Behind.) But since they only release DLC about once a month they've gotta make money somehow. Besides, cosmetics impact gameplay at a minimum and the new ones don't change strategy at all.

BUT! This is a big but! :bbtcat: They should increase the rate of shard gain as it takes an eternity to get enough for even a green cosmetic set.

MATH TIME!!!
At the current earning rate you'll finally have ~13500 shards at level 61 (The price of a green clothing set) which will probably take (based on my math) ~370 full length matches where you earn an average of 500xp per match. Since most full length matches are idk... 15 minutes long on average that's 5561.1 minutes or 92.685 hours. Add in lobby wait time and that cool new green cosmetic set for your prestige three doctor is looking a bit like a pipe dream.

To conclude, most things are "attainable" through play time but that comes with two gigantic air quotes for more casual players.

edit: probably gonna make a video on this soon since this whole thing is kinda dumb

It doesn't really matter how much sense you make as the counter points you'll get are basically "it's optional content" or "X game is more expensive" even though neither of those points really mean anything.

They should increase the number of shards you earn every say ten level increases or so in my opinion.

I don't care about cosmetics.

There's no maths or discussion needed to say they are ridiculously over priced but all games are. Personally with the way dbd operates on a seasonal basis it would be cool to see some sort of vip pass in which you pay a certain amount which grants you access to unlocking cosmetics through gameplay before the season ends similar to what they do in fortnite. Though this would be cool cosmetics aren't really a problem because they don't change the gameplay so it's up to the player if it's worth it or not.
StandWithAmerica Jul 4, 2018 @ 6:22pm
Yeah and somehow the nurse’s dresses cost even more. (21k shards). Feelsbadman.........
Farinha de rosca Jul 4, 2018 @ 6:29pm
Overpriced as hell.
Jaunty the Fool Jul 4, 2018 @ 6:30pm
This game and it's dlcs are relatively cheap overall, so I have no problem spending a little extra if I want fancy cosmetics (mostly I don't). I generally hate microtransactions (and similar pay to play models) but DBD is one of the least offensive examples.
The pay cosmetics were never for you. The pay cosmetics were for people like me. It lets me pay them more money without any competitive advantage gained from the pay only reward. I don't just like the game it is my favorite. Broken, busted mechanics, unfair balance; it dose not matter. I love the game. The moment I could I dropped $50 into it to buy whatever I wanted. Having bought stuff I can easily see players dropping $100+ into it. Cosmetics actually help pay for the work done towards free content in many games. More money pouring into a game is never a bad thing.

I have no room to complain considering the cost i paid for the game and my play time. I've already spent over that cost in cosmetics as well.
