I do Okay as Freddy.

He is relatively add-on dependent. His brown ones are borderline Garbage unless you literally have nothing else, to run.

Generally i go for either Dream Range, Faster Sleep Time, Higher chance of No Skill checks, and some form of Action speed slow. Mix and Match then to suit your preferred way of playing the Dream Demon. Generally I got for Yellow or Green Range increase, and something that slows the rate of skill checks, or the Swing Chains.

My favorite Add-ons when I have them are the Red Paint Brush, and Z Block. Red Paint brush makes you move a tad bit slower, but basically gives you an infinite wall hack on whomever you are chasing.

Perks I tend to use on Freddy are:
Ruin, Remember Me, NOED, and BBQ And Chili.

Sometimes I drop ruin for M&A but only if I am really going for some red paintbrush cheese, as both will lower your terror radius, and make the auras of survivors in the Dream World easier to find.

Also as tempting as it is to Tunnel, Drive by Dream. Your target will always run you by someone fixing a Gen nine times out of ten. Take a second dream the person fixing the Gen, then decide who to chase.

Your goal is to Dream as many people as possible at once.

NEVER use Overcharge as Freddy. It's a Free Wake up. (Most Painful Game Ever)

"Diazepam Freddy" build is funny (Nancy's Masterpiece + Pill Bottle + Monitor and Abuse, Insidious, Ruin, Nurses Calling), and makes em all paranoid too. Although, i have seriously been having more fun with "Ms. Piggy's Need to Know Basis" build (Rules Set No.2 + Jigsaws Annotated Plan + Nurses Calling, Make Your Choice, Monitor and Abuse, Brutal Strength/Enduring) I've had fun watching heads pop because its much more difficult to find the jigsaw boxes before the traps are triggered, and the perks just make it fun to sneak up on them. Rely on the Killer Tier system, go for the one that is higher (Pig).

Freddy forces a mild distraction on every discovered survivor at the cost of being easily tracked.

Amanda forces a major distraction on selected downed survivors at the cost of being spontaneously killed.

The Pig Seems fun, and I have her just haven't leveled her up yet.

Freddy took me from Rank 20 to Rank 10, before I started experimenting with other killers. Since it's so close to reset I stopped taking Ranking seriously for a wee bit until afterwards.

If you want some points OP feel free to send a Friend Request, he's my defacto Go to Killer when I -want- the win.

freddy is in a really bad place right now, he is both unfun to play as and against. Since you can't hit people right off, many times someone you had dead to rights will make a pallet or window. And as survivor, he is the tunneling PRO from hell. since he has aura reading, he can chase you untill either the game ends or you die.

Needs a severe rework.

It's not about getting the kills with the traps (although that is fun when it happens), it's more about using them to stall people from doing gens as quickly, thus giving you more time to kill them. She has a learning curve for sure, but I haven't regretted getting her. Freddy i have, but only before i started using more interesting "outside the box" builds with him, his biggest and most frustrating problem is that he has to wait 3-9.5 seconds (depending on addons used) before he can attack or interrupt any survivors. This is a HUGE detriment to him, and breaking out of the dream state is really easy for survivors until the endgame, which is what he's designed for. I have my fun with him, and if I try really hard I can make rank 5 good enough with him, but with ms piggy, I feel like I won't have to try as hard to reach the same rank. In the end they are both good for having fun if you don't really care about ranking, but if you do... Pig is the better choice.
