Can I turn off the chat?

Just joined the game like one week ago. So I'm still trying things out and learning. Used to play as survivors but these days I want to play as killer to know the both sides a little better. Since I'm still new, I don't have so many blood points spent for the killers and have to play with like only 1 not-that-useful-for-new-player skill. As a result the good survivors commonly with more play hours can easily win. They deserve it and I really admire their good playing. But then they will always make fun of me in the chat. I just don't untersstand why people are so toxic, after all it's just a game to have fun, not a way to boost the arrogance.
Is there any way like to turn off the chat so that I don't have to see the annoying words and just begin a new game in a good mood?

In the post-game chat, theres a button to the right of where you type your text. Click it, it hides it during that session and stays that way until you restart the game (unless you open it back up yourself).

yah... this is the most toxic community in existence, so you're probably gonna wanna hit the button to mute the chat

I'm definitely gonna mute the chat haha. I just don't get it why people can be so mean just playing a game... As a new player it's really discouraging...

NP, good luck with the game, try explore the guide section to learn about basic stuff for both sides.
