This. Also for me it's more like a "thanks for the match" if that makes any sense. No salt, nothing.
Because that's not necessarily true.
GG as a sporting thing is fine and good but as people here have said, it should really be only the loser who is in the position to offer this phrase. If the winner wants to reciprocate it, great. But don't be surprised when you win a game and say gg and the other person/people turn around and disagree with you.
In sports you generally wait until the loser offers the handshake for good reason. A lot of the time they're not in the mood to interact at that moment and that's fine. Basically their happiness in that moment matters a lot more than the winner. Esports has been slow to catch onto this but perhaps we're getting there.
Again I'd suggest saying thanks for the match, or nothing (or waiting until the loser/s say something) rather than gg, especially if you're on the winning side of it.
