Dead by Daylight

Why do people insist on saying GG even though it clearly wasn't a good game?
Never understood this.

Can we maybe agree to stop trying make the universally positive "gg" into something negative? It means "good game" and that is a positive thing. You may not agree with the person saying it, but to them it was a good game, and they are entitled to their opinion even if you didn't enjoy the game. There's no need to tell them how wrong they are to think so (and you are not obligated to change your opinion either).

Considering there is so many topics on how toxic players can be, can we not turn a positive expressions into a negative? If anything, you can only blame yourself for taking "gg" as a negative. If they are saying it sarcastically? Then they are doing it badly, most would still mistake their sarcasm as positive with only a "gg" given.

"gg" means "good game" and it is a positive thing; nothing will ever change this expression in online gaming.

You're a breath of fresh air.
Most people don't even know what gg means

A good game is subjective.

I say it mostly out of respect.

This. Also for me it's more like a "thanks for the match" if that makes any sense. No salt, nothing.

Because that's not necessarily true.
If you're worried about what you say being misinterpreted either don't say anything or maybe - brace yourselves - use more than two letters to communicate?

GG as a sporting thing is fine and good but as people here have said, it should really be only the loser who is in the position to offer this phrase. If the winner wants to reciprocate it, great. But don't be surprised when you win a game and say gg and the other person/people turn around and disagree with you.

In sports you generally wait until the loser offers the handshake for good reason. A lot of the time they're not in the mood to interact at that moment and that's fine. Basically their happiness in that moment matters a lot more than the winner. Esports has been slow to catch onto this but perhaps we're getting there.

Again I'd suggest saying thanks for the match, or nothing (or waiting until the loser/s say something) rather than gg, especially if you're on the winning side of it.
