Can't join friends SWF

Two of my friends are playing SWF together but I can't join their lobbies and neither can they join mine.
Error message says that I'm unable to join the host and that I should make sure there's no update pending. I double checked and DbD doesn't need an update.
I also restarted the game and Steam multiple times and it still doesn't work.

I've never SWF'd, but a quick 30 second Google search shows that you should double check to make sure you're all on each other friends list. If you are, then verify the integrity of your game files. If that doesn't work, uninstall and reinstall.

May also be a problem with profile privacy. Try setting to friends or public instead of private. Just a few things to try.

We've been on each other's friend lists, maybe reinstalling would work. I've also tried to play alone but I can't find a lobby.

Have you tried to turn off your firewall and stuff just to test if that's the problem? My friend once had the same problem as you describe his virus program blocked him from starting dbd games.

Is your account/game details completely private from your friends, not just the public? because this was an issue for me before.
