Obsession Changes?
what are the changes with Obsession? I havent played in a while, and as I was loading into a game and noticed I was the obsession. I didnt have Obsession perks, and neither did the Killer (shadowborn tier 1). Only 1 survivor had an Obsession perk, DS, but he was not the Obsession.

Someone I asked said they thought that Obsession is now randomly assigned to people even without Obsession perks, but, as killer, I have played a few games with no Obsession. How does it work now?

The only way you would have obsession is if you or the killer had a perk that was obsession based. Also if you did not have one but another survivor did. You should not have it unless its a specific killer obsession perk.

Furitive Chase ( Ghpst Face perk ) It basically will switch the obsession to who ever unhooked the obsession.

Hope this helps?

*EDIT*
Also if you had DS.. and used it without being the obsession. The obsession would switch to you.

this was right as the game started, so no hooks yet, the only player of the 5 with an obsession perk, DS, was never the obsession (suicide on first hook)

No clue then.. I guess I would need to see video/screenshots.. Really odd that happened.

Could simply be a bug. Its DBD after all.

If your Survivor friend had DS, any of the Survivors can become the obsession.

DS only increases the chances of the user becoming it, although when DS is used, the user becomes the obsession immediately.

So, previously, back a few months ago, only the player with DS was the obsession, and now you are saying that if someone has DS, then all the players have the chance to be Obsession? is this only for DS or all obsession perks?

Or...

now, is there always an obsession in every game, regardless of perks?

This is what's written on DS:

*Successfully stunning the Killer will result in you becoming the Obsession.
*Increases your chances of being the Obsession.

I don't know if all other Obsession perks say the same, or if there's some that make you the obsession 100%, you'll have to check.

Pretty sure Obsessions only exist if either Survivors/Killer have 1 perk that specifies it.

I'm kinda new to the game, but i'm pretty sure this clarifies all your questions, unless there's more stuff i'm unaware of.

That is not how it works. If no one has obsession perks on the survivor side but the killer does. Only then is it random. If one survivor has obsession perk. Then it will always be that survivor UNLESS the killer has the perk I mentioned above. ( Since that forces a switch )

Otherwise if more than one survivor has a obsession perk.. Then its random between those ones. In that situation the other survivors cant have it unless.. Once again. The perk I mentioned from killer is being used. If the killer is not using said perk. But more than 1 ds user is in the game. Then once triggered the DS will cause the obsession to change to the person who just used it IF they where not currently the obsession.

so, to become the Obsession, you have to start the game not the obsession?

I did a search of all the patch notes and there is no mention of the obsession being applied to someone without an Obsession perk

That is because it cant happen :P The only time a survivor can get it without one is due to the killer having a obsession perk.

*EDIT*
Well unless its a bug obviously.. As I already said in a previous post..

The only explanation that makes sense at this point is that it was a bug

No, you're wrong. Ever since DS got changed they also changed how the obsession works. If either the killer or at least one survivor has an obsession perk one of the 4 survivors will randomly become the obsession.

So, as it was said if the killer has no obsession perk but one of your teammates is running DS for example, there's still a chance you are the obsession at the start of the game.

if this is the way it is, I wish they gave a better explanation about this somewhere.

Well since the "change" you claim its never happened in my games. Nor the games I have watched on steams/youtube. FUNNY THAT! ( Not to mention. Far as I am aware of. What you have claimed has never been said by the devs or in patch notes. So please offer up the proof of it. )

I don't remember if they ever commented on it but I'm pretty sure people have been asking the devs about that when that change got released because it caused a lot of confusion.
It's another case of them forgetting to mention it in the patch notes.

I'm pretty sure daisy is right, I don't have any Screenshots sadly, but I've played 4man-SWf with only one DS and the Obsession wasn't always the one with DS. (that would also probably be the easiest way to test that) I've also seen a Discussion about that before where people said the same. I guess they changed it like that because they wanted the Obsession change mechanic to have more impact. Also otherwise it would be easier for the Killer to tell who has DS and he could simply slug the Person.
