Dead by Daylight Pen and Paper RPG?
So I was thinking over all the lore I've poured over with this game and its mechanics for a little while now, and I came up with the idea of starting up a pen and paper campaign with this group I play Dark Heresy with on Wednesdays. Any ideas on what system best works with the setting? I was thinking possibly working with Call of Cthulhu 7th as a base but I want to know what the community thinks.

Players would assume the roles of survivors that wake up in the Fog and have to navigate through the mists to find supplies, shelter, and perhaps, a way out of the Fog whilst being hunted by the various beings stalking them at the command of the Entity.

The "Trials" could be an attempt to either light up the infrastructure in an attempt to banish the Fog from an area, a forced event by the Entity that either warps them to the area to test them or herds them to the locations as a means to seek refuge from the Beasts (given the armored gates, it would make sense to keep the Entity's minions out until one inevitably gets in and creates an opportunity to sacrifice or to let others in, forcing them to move)

I'm kind of just spitballing ideas here before I propose it to the group. I think it would be a fun practice for dealing with horror roleplaying as well as an excuse to bring in just about any horror movie villain we can imagine since with DbD anything goes. I do want to dis-incentivize combat as a viable strategy though, which I did like the idea of using Call of Cthulhu with until I realized just how badly the players can abuse the combat system.

Kind of a weird RPG, it would all be about sneaking and hiding and running away.

I would definitely turn it into more of a Cthulhu-style story, the Entity is like a GOO or Elder Thing and you actually fight in the Mists against monsters and minions and killers.

It would be a lot less roll to hit combat scenarios and more opposed skill checks, I would think, though we do have characters like David, Laurie who, in the lore, don't give two ♥♥♥♥♥ about taking the fight to the Killers, and Kate, Tapp and Ash have descriptions that point to them being more fighters than runners. I'd have to figure something out for that.

i think this has potential as a mini's game killer model and surivior models with lots of like of site blocking. when a surivior mini gets to a gen roll a D6 on a 1-3 ruin goes off and you lose progress on a 4-5 you hit it but get no progress and on a 6 you win. as i type this i think this could honestly be a fun side game the devs could make

Like dras said. it'd be alot more Skillchecks than roll to combat.

I'm still looking for some roleplay here, dealing with themes of sanity and hope, as those seem to be the two most precious commodities in the lore. Skill checks would be like rolling to topple over a shelf onto a Killer and they have to roll for how long they're incapacitated. A skill check for escaping the Killer's grasp as he's dragging you to the hook and skill checks for channeling aura reading, sabotaging traps, performing first aid and repairing generators which all make sense to me from a RPG perspective.

I was also thinking that progression would take the form of a once daily ability to project into the Blood Web to gain insight and clues as to where you can go, but the longer you stay in the Blood Web before returning to the Campfire, the greater your risk for the Blood Spider to find you, which can result in more dangerous and famous Killers being set on your trail, the Fog reshifting the landscape or worse, the Entity can actively start hunting for you in the Blood Web, forcing you into a 1v1 encounter with the risk of permadeath should you fail a personal trial.

Again, these are just spitballing ideas.

i saw go for it and try it out it may work and you could get a local group playing
Solid idea. I wouldn't even know how to start ironing it out though

Actually, I think I've found the perfect system to use. Look up "Strain" or "Xas Irkalla" and see what you guys think of that.
