Hence me calling it a trap, the only reasoning to not call it that is you can wait till the end and see how far you get before you decide to dive in.
You're never getting that initial 10 investment back regardless of how far you get.
True or False, you can get a refund for Auric cells purchased? I'm pretty sure that's a No, so no it isn't free even if you earn 15 free battle passes going forward. The first still cost you 10 bucks, unlwss you earned free cells playing the game, which this game doesn't do.
auric cells ( 10$ worth) back so its free
i mean, if you play enough you'll get it eventually. i have 25 tiers right now and theres still what, like 50+ days left? if you complete all 70 tiers you get $10 back so for me personally, it's worth it.
if you don't feel like you'll get high enough, hold off on buying the pass. if you wait until the last day to buy the pass, you still keep all the progress. so you could save your money, see how far you get, and then if you're satisfied, you can buy it. but it's just cosmetics.
Its about total play time required.
Not how much you have to do said required grinding.
There is no reason to make thius event a grind or to make it difficult.
This is a game we all payed money for.
This is not a free 2 play game, so f2p mechanics have no place in this game.;
People that work all day and want to play 1 or 2 rounds after work
should be able to complete the rift event. (they dont)
The worst solo survivor without all perks and simple common items
should also be able to finish the rift event. (but its to difficult so they wont.)
Stupid game design based on greed, instead of fun.
There is a reward system that keeps you playing, but that is pretty normal for multiplayer games. There is a time limit on the rewards, but that is hardly different from a Halloween or Xmas event in any other game.
And sure it cost $10, but the game is really cheap and has gotten updates for 3 years. Constant bug fixes (and servers) cost money. The fact you can earn a free next battle pass by playing this game is great, they could have charged $10 every 70 days but they didn't.
As for the grind:
The archives are a little more than 80 fragments per page, that means if you do every challenge you would only need 380 other fragments. Each fragment is 800xp, but you can get up to 600xp in a game. Even if you die early and average 500xp per game you only need 600 games in a 70 day span (8 games per day, rounding down your progress and the archive).
Is that a lot of game-time? Sure, its about 2 hours a day. Do you HAVE to do it? Not really. If you play DbD as your 'main' game then it is very doable.
What they do or do not want money for is irrelevent.
The money pooled otgether from all the sold copies and DLC together
is more then enough for continued game developement and to keep the servers online for the next 10 years.
Now that we got that out of the way.
Requiring a lot of time or difficulty for people to complete an event
is unnesesary.
it could just as well have been a daily login or the time required to play cut 20 fold.
making people grind for excessive amounts of time is part of f2p mechanics.
The only thing an event has to provide in a game we payed money for is fun.
Pretty sure you are just mad that the devs asked for 10$ and are using "too much grind" to mask that.
