I think the current crossplay on the Steam version only connects to the Windows Store version. Unless I read it wrong.

What it is, is it's basically cross play between players off Steam, and players on the windows store. It's the first step to real cross play, AKA cross play between platforms (nintendo switch, PS4, Xbox, PC, [mobile???]) but we're not there quite yet.

I'd rather cross save tbfh. I'd love to play it on my Switch every now and then and at least have my BP shared across my PC account and Switch account.

I mean when you think about it, cross play is a huge achievement to tackle. Already the developers need to work on dedicated servers, the next chapter which apparently is coming up, map reworks, maintaining the current main build on steam to keep it free of bugs (which is never easy), getting the mobile version of DBD ready for release, optimizing the freshly released nintendo switch version (which I hear is very buggy), they've got a lot to do.

But the only reason they have a lot to do is because they've been so successful, and when one is successful one expands. Not just in what you're selling but the resources they have access to, with all the money they make they are more than capable of hiring new people to add to the dev team to work on all the different things they have going on. Despite this, it'll still take some time regardless

no reason to not cross play pc and consoles.. only nurse and huntress would be stronger.
but.. we pc survivors deal with the same for 3 years and counting..

so why not

That's what the devs said about getting a clown killer in the game, or a non-human character in the game. That's what community members said about getting Ghostface, or DBD coming to mobile, or having dedicated servers.

Long story short, "never" is pretty dangerous word to use around the DBD devs, the realm of possibility surrounding Dead By Daylight is pretty vast considering its monetary resources (DBD is without a doubt, a successful game which has made many successful financial conquests and DLC releases) and its reputational resources (the very famous names and licenses attached to the game).

Not to mention they did it correctly, legally, and successfully as far as licensing goes instead of assuming and not double checking themselves like a certain other game/company did *cough cough* F13 *cough cough*

If you think DBD has any shortage of players you're very much mistaken. Matchmaking / lobby / queue times have their own issues which are systemic because of bugs and other connection type issues. The full release of dedicated servers and a few patches to seal up any bugs / fully optimize dedicated servers should solve these issues. They have nothing to do with the playerbase or player count (though they might have something to do with region, which is a different story)
